Plastic Surgery 🚀Trend Report: Face and Fat

Plastic Surgery Trend Report- Face and Fat

It’s halfway through 2017 and we sat down with our very own board-certified Dr. Paul Wigoda, plastic surgeon extraordinaire to get the inside scoop on what insides people are scooping out this year.

Retro is Coming to Plastic Surgery

Dr. Wigoda tells us that “the biggest trend has to do with fat – fat transfers.” That’s right, the biggest trend in 2017 is a throwback from the 90’s. But don’t just take this award winning doctor’s word for it. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the rate of plastic surgery procedures is up three percent over the last year. The biggest areas of growth are facelifts and fat transfers.

The ASPS even breaks down the numbers for us:

  • Fat injections that are considered minimally invasive are up 13%
  • Fat transfers to augment the butt are up 26%
  • Fat transfers to augment the breasts are up 72%

Bringing Sexy Back

Where have we heard of fat transfers before? Well, back in the 90s, fat transfers were heralded as the Next Big Thing. But the procedure was ahead of its time, and hadn’t yet been perfected. Imperfect technique leads to fat hardening and forming lumps, which as we all know is very scary. Now, twenty years later, the procedure is back and much improved.

From Flabulous to Fabulous

Fat transfers involve taking fat from a problem area that a patient doesn’t want it, and reintroducing it to the body in an area where it would be more desirable, particularly to rejuvenate or round out areas of the body. Sometimes people aren’t even aware of the option. “I have a lot of patients coming in for liposuction that don’t really know about fat transfers, who have never even thought about it.” Dr. Wigoda tells us.

This is totally common – you can’t be expected to keep up with the latest procedures, that’s why we have doctors!

If belly or thigh fat is bothering you, as it bothers a lot of Dr. Wigoda’s patients, he can turn that problem into a solution. “We can take that fat that we take out and transfer it – usually to the butt.” It also minimizes waste, and who doesn’t want to be able to brag about recycling in the year 2017?!

Put Your Best Face Forward

Have you ever seen an adorable chubby little baby face? Of course you have. And you, like every other warm-blooded person on the planet, probably wanted to pinch those plump little cheeks.

As we get older, our faces tend to smooth out in shape. This is because we lose facial fat as we age. That’s one of the reasons why so many people get chemical filler elements in their faces to look more youthful – really what they are trying to do is replace that facial fat loss.

Why not do it with the real thing? Facial fat transfers are becoming more and more popular because a patient can now replace their lost fat with other natural fat from another part of their body. This avoids expensive and unnatural chemical fillers that have to be replaced every few years regardless. “We’re a lot more successful now at transferring the fat and having the fat stay basically forever than we were even a few years ago.” Dr. Wigoda tells us, underlining how much the procedure has improved and how much longer a fat transfer can last than fillers.

Also, fat can naturally rejuvenate the skin in your face, which can give a much more authentic youthful look that lasts longer than chemical fillers would. This combines well with a facelift, and Dr. Wigoda finds that having a fat transfer as part of the process “rejuvenates the face much more than just doing a traditional facelift.”

Dr. Wigoda Shares 🔥 Hot 2017 Plastic Surgery Trends

2017 Plastic Surgery Trends
2016 was a big year for comebacks and everyone was working the old trends in a fresh way like playing Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo NES, sporting crop tops, and buying chokers… Now in 2017, we’re looking forward to seeing what resurfaces! Luckily terms like ‘phat’ are still out but when it comes to 2017 plastic surgery trends “fat” is definitely in!

Many patients come to Dr. Wigoda’s surgery center seeking liposuction for problem areas like their belly or thighs and are surprised to learn that they can use the fat removed from those procedures to help rejuvenate other areas on their body. While these areas may not have been a high priority originally, it’s ideal to do both plastic surgery procedures at the same time because once the fat is removed you can’t save it for reuse later.

You may not have considered using liposuctioned fat for fat transfers before but there are a few reasons Dr. Wigoda thinks this plastic surgery trend will be hot in 2017! Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body but there are few that would warrant a fat transfer. These are some of the top ones!

Butt I hadn’t thought about that…

2016 was also a big year for rounder, fuller bottoms but did you know you don’t need butt implants to save a figure that may be falling or flat?

A Brazilian butt lift is an augmentation procedure that uses fat from liposuction to fill and reshape the butt cheeks and outer hips to help address sagginess, asymmetry, and more. The combination of removing fat from other areas like the abs, back, and thighs and adding it to the buttocks creates a more sensual and sexy appearance, not just from the back, but from the front and sides as well.

Fat + Facelifts = 😊

When it comes to facelifts, most people scoff at the idea of transferring fat because it seems counter-productive. You want to tighten the skin and muscles, not make your face rounder, right?

Combining fat transfers with face and neck lifts can actually make patients look even more rejuvenated and youthful. Faces typically thin with age and with decrease in weight and you may even lose fat through atrophy. Facelifts on their own don’t necessarily bring that back but when fat transfers are added to cheeks, nasolabial folds and marionette lines in addition to traditional facelifts, they create an even more youthful appearance.

Whether or not one of these 2017 plastic surgery trends are on your to-do list, why not call Dr. Wigoda for a free plastic surgery consultation? It’s a new year, let’s renew you.

Plastic Surgery’s Newest Trend: Non-Invasive Procedures

How Cosmetic Surgery Is Becoming More Simple - Facebook

Plastic surgery has come a long way over the years, and the turn of the 21st century has brought about amazing advancements. Results that were once thought only achievable through a mythical fountain of youth were made possible by plastic surgery and now cosmetic surgery is becoming less complicated and results more attainable. How is this possible?

The answer is simple really…

Non-invasive procedures with nip and tuck results.

Last month, we reported on The Today Show’s plastic surgery trends. The latest trend they shared was plastic surgery without the knife. Why? Non-invasive procedures strive to make plastic surgery less complicated.

People want to look as good as they feel, but oftentimes gravity gets in the way. New plastic surgery trends offer non-invasive options for people who want to slow the aging process without looking “worked on.” They want to look like a younger, refreshed version of themselves and rejuvenation results have never been more promising and within reach.

Plastic surgery procedures have evolved and as the options grow and change so do the clientele. People of all ages are seeking help from plastic surgeons to keep themselves up. Even more interesting, many of these plastic surgery patients are male. So many people are opting for non-invasive procedures because of the reduced risks, minimal downtime and the less permanent but still excellent results. While bruising and swelling may occur, non-invasive procedures are a great alternative to plastic surgery as it is ideal for those with busy schedules who can’t afford any downtime. In fact, some procedures are nicknamed lunchtime plastic surgery treatments because they’re just that quick!

Is your interest piqued? Great! Read on to see what less complicated plastic surgery procedures board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda recommends.

Fillers for Wrinkles

Wrinkles can be the result of any one, or combination of factors including loss of collagen, sun damage, smoking, alcohol consumption and also hormonal changes. Aging itself is a large contributing factor as collagen can decrease at a rate of 1 percent per year after age 40. Sun exposure accelerates the aging process and loss of collagen, resulting in the formation of wrinkles. To help slow down and lightly reverse the natural effects of aging, fillers like Botox, Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse® can make a subtle but noticeable difference that doesn’t look like the skin is stretched too tight.

Botox Brow Lifts

Botox is mainly used for the upper face including the upper forehead, crows feet and the glabellar area between the eyebrows. It has many uses but Botox brow lifts specifically focus on reversing the descent of eyebrows which has a tremendous effect on the “total” look of the person. Depending on whether the descent is more toward the middle or more toward the outside, the person may look angry, bored, or tired when they are not. Raising the brow “opens” the entire eye up. As a result the person looks more refreshed, awake, and happy. Botox brow lifts offer effective but less permanent results comparable to surgical brow lifts. The best part is, you can start small and if you’d like, do more after.

Kybella for Double Chins

Recently, the FDA approved a new drug called Kybella. The drug went through two clinical trials involving 1,022 adults with varying degrees of “submental fat.” The results were a noticeable reduction in fat! Kybella is approved as a “non-invasive in-the-office procedure” and sounds like a worthy alternative to liposuction, which targets the same fat but involves a lengthy procedure under local anesthesia.

“If the drug actually works as described, it will be very useful. However, I am skeptical that it will be as effective as liposuction. We will just have to wait to see how well it works, and more importantly, what the possible complications are,” said Dr. Wigoda.

Medical Facials and Peels

Medical facial services to combat the on-the-surface skin care problems plagued by men and women of any age. Medical aesthetics services are a lighter side of non-surgical cosmetic services that can protect against premature aging and also maximize the benefits of other procedures such as Botox and Fillers. For best results, enhance your medical facials with services like micro-needling, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion and chemical peels like Vi Peel.

Tip: VI Peel is formulated with a numbing agent, making it a perfect service to have before a Botox injection!

Micro-needling improves the appearance of fine wrinkles and acne scars by using tiny needle pricks around the problem area to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, collagen. This collagen induction therapy provides faster recovery than laser resurfacing and generally sees a 60% to 70% improvement in the broad acne scars with four to six treatments. Patients typically notice an immediate glow following their initial treatment but may exhibit slight redness for a few days as the skin heals.

If you want to get rid of dead skin cells, dermaplaning is a great exfoliator. Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and getting rid of the vellus hair (baby-fine hairs on your face,) along with giving your skin a brighter complexion. It is very similar to shaving and will hack off all your fine facial hairs (bonus!), but before you go buying fine facial razors, keep in mind that the best results come from professionals so your skin will feel silky smooth.

Truth: Vellus hair is soft and fine, and shaving them won’t make them thicker and coarser.

Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer to gently exfoliate the skin to diminish signs of aging. This non-invasive treatment is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks.

Chemical Peels (including the VI Peel)

VI Peels are a safe, effective approach to achieving younger looking skin and provide superior results within a week. Skin that is properly maintained through professional exfoliation treatments and appropriate home care products stays healthy, youthful, and radiant at any age. The plus of chemical peels such as VI Peels? A single VI Peel will achieve significant repair and impart a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true restorative, painless repair of damaged skin cells resulting from UV exposure and acne. Best of all, it is an aging preventative for younger patients with no visible damage. There are no restrictions following the VI Peels, normal activities may be resumed immediately after the peel. For patients who exercise routinely, low impact aerobic activity would be advised for 72-96 hours.

Non-invasive treatments can add up with multiple sessions, but the price tag is worth it for your peace of mind. Want to know what cosmetic treatments would work best for your problem areas? Contact Dr. Wigoda today for your free consultation.

Gen X Loves Plastic Surgery? ASPS and Dr. Paul Wigoda Say It’s True!

When it comes to plastic surgery, it seems Gen X (those born between the late 1960s and 1980s) are opting for lipo and breast implants while the baby boomers choose facelifts and eyelid lifts, says Fort Lauderdale plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda.

Although Baby Boomers are known as the “forever young” generation, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Generation X accounted for 43 percent of all aesthetic surgical procedures last year while Baby Boomers accounted for just 28 percent.

Gen Xers, now aged 31–45, are more likely to have postponed milestones of adulthood like marriage and childbirth. Now, as they are reaching their forties, they may feel their bodies are aging faster than their lifestyles. This age group is also likely reaching their career peaks and may want to maintain their appearances or, finally have the additional means to afford cosmetic procedures they have been wanting.

“I would agree that this age group accounts for the most surgical procedures,” said Dr. Paul Wigoda. “However, one of the reasons for this is that the most popular procedures, liposuction and breast augmentation, tend to be done in this younger age group. The older age group tends to do more facial rejuvenating procedures such as facelifts or blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts). While these procedures are very popular, from a numbers standpoint, the breast and lipo procedures are more common.”

Baby Boomers may be less interested in cosmetic surgery as they retire and feel the need to spend expendable income to maintain appearances isn’t as high as the need to travel or do recreational activities. In this economy, Gen Xers are less likely to spend their income on recreation but consider cosmetic procedures as personal maintenance and factor it into their budget as such. Gen Xers are at the stage in their lives when they can afford procedures such as breast augmentation, butt lifts and liposuction without guilt. They are also seeking a career and confidence boost, making procedures like Botox and filler injections so prevalent they are equivocal to everyday procedures like coloring hair or getting waxed. Breast augmentation, tend to be done in this younger age group. The older age group tends to do more facial rejuvenating procedures such as facelifts or blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts). While these procedures are very popular, from a numbers standpoint, the breast and lipo procedures are more common.”

Whether the cosmetic procedure you are considering undergoing is invasive or non-invasive, always seek out the services of a board-certified doctor. If these procedures interest you, request a free consultation from board certified Dr. Paul Wigoda today.

Labiaplasty and Butt Lifts On the Rise in 2014

There is an upward trend in both labiaplasty and buttock augmentation surgeries underlined by recent findings by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

buttock augmentation

Last year’s statistics reported that cosmetic procedures were up five percent from the previous year, the most popular procedures including breast implants and various facial procedures. This year, the trend continues and cosmetic procedures are on the rise however, the procedures seeing the most growth include two that fall below the belt.

Labiaplasty procedures saw an increase of 44 percent over the past year and buttock augmentation procedures increased by 58 percent. While these cosmetic procedures only represent a small portion of plastic surgery overall, their growth demonstrates a definitive trend.

Butt Lifts and Vagina Plastic Surgery: Why Go Below?

Candidates for labiaplasty include women who experience elongated labial tissue due to recent pregnancy, weight loss, menopause, hereditary conditions, the natural aging process, or other factors. This very common condition among women can result in discomfort, pain or self-consciousness and can be effectively reconstructed without harming surrounding tissues or affecting sexual sensation. Labiaplasty can result in one feeling more comfortable while wearing certain types of clothing, simply walking, exercising and engaging in sexual intimacy.

While some opt for labiaplasty to increase comfort, the procedure can also be performed to increase positive body image. Today’s grooming trends revolve around a silky smooth look. Underarms, legs, bikini lines and even full pubic hair elimination are achievable through laser hair removal. As a result of this popular style, women are paying more attention to the appearance of the lower region and wish to enhance their image.

Bums are Back!

Buttock augmentation has also gained a lot of interest and is seeing growth which is believed to continue. From the moment Pippa Middleton stepped onto the red carpet at the Royal Wedding, bums were back in. Her made-by-Zumba figure inspired a Facebook page, a lift in padded underwear sales and even a plastic surgery named after her!

The desire for buttock augmentation can be attributed to curvaceous celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson, who are inspiring people to go for the va-va-voom bombshell look rather than solely believe that thin is in. The procedure consists of fat grafting, or taking fat from unwanted areas, and transferring it to the posterior allowing for the surgeon to shape and mold the buttock.

This procedure has also been considered medically beneficial. Both males and females with desk jobs can encounter discomfort after sitting for extended periods of time. The additional padding and reshaping of the buttock allows people to sit comfortably and may help them maintain better posture and can reduce back pain.

When considering plastic surgery, it is paramount to seek out the services of a board-certified doctor versus someone whom you discovered online. If you are interested in buttock augmentation or other plastic surgery procedures, come in for a free consultation from board certified Dr. Paul Wigoda.

South Florida Plastic Surgeon Dr. Wigoda Shares Insight on Breast Augmentation Economy

PaulWigoda, MD has been saying that electiveplasticsurgeryprocedureswillreturn as the economy strengthens since the New Year. Here is an infographic from that further drives this point home.

Over $10 billion is spent on surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures each year and over $1.1 billion of that goes toward breast augmentations. Over the last ten years, the number of breast augmentations has steadily increased, until the rough economy caused procedures to dip from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, however, according to the AmericanSocietyofPlasticSurgeons, this number started to increase again, climbing over 2% to nearly 300,000 breast augmentations.
