Justin Beiber Plastic Surgery Makeovers? Dr. Wigoda Questions Mental Health

Dr. Wigoda gets requests all the time for plastic surgery celebrity makeovers.

Call Justin Beiber the ultimate belieber maybe, but celebrity fanatics wanting to look like celebrities are hardly a new trend and studies show it isn’t a healthy one. It could mean a chin reduction, eyelid surgery, botox, face and lip fillers and even smile surgery among numerous other operations to look like your favorite celebrity.

Normal: Wanting braids like Hunger Games’ Katniss

Not Normal: Spending $100K to look like Justin Beiber

There might be someone that wants a hairstyle or likes a fashion trend for example a woman asking  their hairdresser for “The Rachel” cut or the Hunger Games Katniss Braid; however a few people have taken it to an alarmingly new level of plastic surgery celebrity look alikes, according to South Florida plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda.

The Internet is full of examples of people who’ve gone under the knife, spending thousands of dollars on plastic surgery in an effort to remake themselves in the image of a particular celeb.

Perhaps the most extreme example to go viral recently was the case of 33-year-old Toby Sheldon, a songwriter who plunked down almost $100,000 to look like Justin Bieber. He reportedly underwent a chin reduction, eyelid surgery, and face fillers among numerous other operations in his efforts to appear like the teen heartthrob/ pop singer.

This shocked many, including plastic surgeons like Wigoda, who are flabbergasted by the extremes some people will endure to resemble a celebrity.

“Its actually sad that this person felt the need to look like someone else, regardless of how much money he spent,” he said, ‘While he does look slightly different, he does not look better, nor does he look like Bieber. In fact, he looks a bit plastic.”

Wigoda said if  Sheldon had come to him, he would have turned him away, as would most plastic surgeons.

“While it’s not unusual for someone to say they like a certain celebrity’s nose, or lips, what this young man is seeking cannot be achieved by plastic surgery.  People like Sheldon likely need psychological help and are unlikely to be genuinely happy no matter how much money they spend or how many procedures they undergo.
