Florida’s Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures by Age

Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda reports nip and tuck for men and women trends from as early as 16 years old to their 60’s.  With recent news of Hollywood celebrities getting plastic surgery or cosmetic enhancements at various ages like Heidi Montag, Kim Kardashian and Lisa Kudrow’s reveal of a nose job at 16, plastic surgery has gone mainstream. So it makes sense to analyze who is electing for plastic surgery, and why.

While the “why” may be tougher to pin down, due to each individual’s own desires, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Report looks at which cosmetic procedures are most popular amongst different age groups.

Nosey Teenage Plastic Surgery: 16-19

The nose is the body part which changes the least throughout life, meaning the nose you have now is the nose you will have for life. For this reason nose reshaping is most popular amongst teenagers.   While skin around the nose can thicken, and cartilage can lose its support, it is the least susceptible to time or changes in habit.  Adolescents looking for a fresh start often turn to rhinoplasty.

Busting into Twenties: 20-29

According to the report, breast augmentation is most popular among 20-29 year-olds, at a time when image is of high importance to a woman. However, Dr. Paul Wigoda counters that many women 30 and over come into his office looking to enhance their breasts.

“Many come in complaining that their breasts have deflated after having kids,” Wigoda states, “while others feel that their breasts are starting to sag and they want to be filled in more and get a small lift that a breast augmentation can provide.”

“It’s not uncommon for women over 30, who are going through a divorce to come in looking to make some changes in their body as they return to the singles scene,” he adds. Wigoda counters that liposuction is also popular with the 20-29 years olds, who also have trouble getting rid of fat in certain areas, even with a normal metabolism.

“In women in that age range, it is often fat in the love handle and bra strap areas, as well as the inner and outer thighs, that are treated through liposuction.”

Preventative Thirties 30’s

30 Going on 21. The study cites liposuction as the most popular procedure amongst 30-39 years olds, as many women in that age range notice their bodies retain fat easier as they get older, even if they maintain the same diet and exercise regiment.  While there are an increasing number of non-surgical options for combatting fat, liposuction is still the most popular cosmetic enhancement.

Eyeing 40’s and 50’s

Aging begins to have noticeable effects on the human body as people enter their forties, particularly around the eyes and forehead. The skin around the eyes can be prone to wrinkle or show redundancy, while the upper eyelids and forehead can often droop, making a person look unnecessarily tired or sad. So patients between the ages of 40-54 most often turn to an eyelid and/or brow lifting surgery to keep age at bay.  Removing or tightening can be used to treat the lower eyelids, as well as treating fat pockets.

Facing 55+

Lastly, the facelift has proven to be the most popular procedure for adults over the age of 55.  They may look to address several parts of the face, such as the cheeks, which can deflate. Other changes that become apparent: the corners of the mouth can turn down and jowls appear.   Also the jawline can lose its contour and the neck becomes loose and droopy at times.  The facelift can be used to address any of of these ailments, and bring back the youthful appearance the 55 and over crowd seek.

Thirty-one percent of today’s plastic surgeon’s use saline and 69% use silicone according to the recent study. Some of the top reasons why women say they get breast plastic surgery are to look better and feel better.

Dr. Wigoda mentioned: “One of the most common comments I get, once the patient has lived with her new implants for a few months is, “I wished I would have done this sooner!”. The vast majority of patients are happier about how they look, they feel better about themselves, and it is truly amazing how such a simple procedure changes their lives for the better.” online casinos nederland

Skinny on Lipo: Dr. Wigoda’s Liposuction Frequently Asked Questions

As the heat index here in Florida continues to climb and people spend more time in their bathing suits, many Floridians are considering getting liposuction to get the body they want. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Wigoda warns patients to educate themselves on the different types of liposuction and to do their research before choosing their Florida plastic surgeon for any procedure.

What is liposuction? Also known as lipoplasty or liposculpture, the procedure removes excess fat deposits, slimming and shaping specific areas of the body. Liposuction can treat stubborn fat pockets in several places on the body, including abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, inner knees, arms, neck and hips. Liposuction can be performed on its own or combined with other plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation, a facelift or tummy tuck.

Contrary to common belief, liposuction is not a weight-loss solution. The procedure was designed to treat small areas of fat. Many patients seek liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits that linger in spite of diet and exercise.

Considering having lipo done? There are several different types of liposuction procedures:

  • Ultra-sonic liposuction
  • Smart lipo
  • Suction assisted liposuction
  • Power assisted liposuction

Dr. Wigoda recommends ultra-sonic liposuction as he believes it to be most effective in achieving your desired results. Despite the current popularity of Smart liposuction, Dr. Wigoda does not feel it is as effective as ultra-sonic liposuction and has only become a buzzword due to heavy marketing.

It is also important to know what type of doctor your surgeon is. While legally any doctor can perform a liposuction, patients should only entrust their bodies to board-certified plastic surgeons for cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Wigoda urges any patient considering liposuction to do their research and consult a Florida plastic surgeon with good credentials and reviews.
