Orgasm Shot O Shot Benefits

If you’re in Fort Lauderdale, then that would be board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Wigoda, who helps women get that spark back in the bedroom with the O-Shot ®. It’s for good reason: they need it!  An estimated 50% of women are experiencing some degree of low libido and dysfunction and more than 30% have difficulty reaching orgasm. Yikes!

Bedroom Bar Menu: O-Shots for All

Wondering how you can get that big O back? Get a shot. And no, we’re not talking about shots of tequila, ladies. Finally, a shot you can look forward to! When most women hear the word ‘shot,’ they cringe (who doesn’t?). We’ll fill you in on one of the industry’s best kept secrets: the O-Shot®.

Plastic surgeons everywhere (Dr. Wigoda included, of course) are helping patients find the wonder of the O-Shot ®. The best news? It’s a nonsurgical treatment! It uses drawn blood platelets to activate growth factors that rejuvenate the female orgasm system. How better to increase orgasm than to do it with your very own blood? By allowing more blood to flow to the organ, it enhances sensitivity and delivers dramatic improvement in sexual function. All of the medical talk aside, this procedure will have you feeling better than ever. Don’t believe us? Take it from one of the hundreds of patient testimonials.

Hit Me with your Best O-Shot

How does the O-Shot® work, you ask? With the help of your blood. Similar to the ever-popular Vampire Series, the O-Shot® begins with a simple blood draw. The blood is then separated and concentrated into PRP (platelet-rich plasma) that is injected into the ever-so-important downstairs area. The effects of the procedure can be known to begin almost immediately (score!).

Vaginal Rejuvenation: Is It Time For A Touch Up Down There?

dr wigoda

Can you believe that According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of patients undergoing labiaplasty, or surgery to trim the lips of the vagina, rose 49 percent from this year to last year. Which begs the question, when is it okay to consider vaginal rejuvenation? Is it time to tidy up your downstairs?

Board-certified South Florida plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD’s labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation plastic surgery procedures, are quickly becoming a popular subject of controversy among women and plastic surgeons. Women in today’s society are under constant pressure to conform and mold to societal expectations for how their bodies are suppose to look and respond. With this increased pressure as well as advances in medical technology, it’s no wonder procedures like these are becoming increasingly more popular.

5 Health Reasons for Rejuvenating The Vajayjay

While some argue procedures such as labiaplasty and vaginal tightening are simply plastic surgery procedures, plastic surgeons argue that they can also be used to treat a wide range of medical conditions such as sexual dysfunction and damage to the vaginal canal from pregnancy. Some other common health reasons for fixing up your vajingle (we are rapidly running out of names for vagina, hang in there) are:

  1. Bowel or urinary tract issues
  2. Trouble keeping in tampons
  3. Internal and external stretching causing pain
  4. Decreased sensation of friction
  5. Incontinence

Make sure you speak to your plastic surgeon if you have any of these issues, and see if labiaplasty or vaginoplasty can either lessen your pain or get rid of it altogether!  Surgeries such as this, according to Dr. Wigoda, are often “safe, effective, and relatively quick.”

Another important thing to remember if you have any of these issues is that they are not uncommon, and many women of all different shapes and sizes go through the exact same thing! There is no need to be embarrassed or ashamed girl, trust me, I’m more embarrassed writing this than you are reading it!

Is Purely Plastic Surgery Right or Wrong?

Now this is the area where the debate gets tricky, is vaginal rejuvenation for cosmetic purposes okay? Is it okay to glam up your kitty cat just because you want to look fabulous?  With society constantly injecting this idea of what is “normal” is it okay to get a plastic surgery procedure just to improve the aesthetics of your vagina? After all, breast augmentation such as Dr. Wigoda’s painless breast implants, can be a purely aesthetic surgery that is continuing to gain popularity among women today!

Dr. Wigoda and many other surgeons say “YES!” As long as it is your choice and you firmly believe vaginal rejuvenation or vaginal tightening can increase your happiness, confidence, or even sexual gratification, that is a completely valid option. Remember you are in control of your own self-image! Find a plastic surgeon that is dedicated to making you feel the most comfortable and confident version of yourself!

Plastic surgeons such as Dr. Wigoda encourage you to speak with an experienced plastic surgeon, read reviews, and ask questions to assure which plastic surgery procedure is the best fit for you.

If you or someone you know is considering any kind of vaginal rejuvenation plastic surgery procedure, contact Dr. Wigoda now for a FREE plastic surgery consultation!

The Five Minute Facelift: Dr. Paul Wigoda Injects His Opinion

five minute facial plastic surgery dr wigoda

Sex, emails, to-do lists and….facelifts. There are many things you can do in five minutes, but what about a five-minute facelift? The search for painless plastic surgery continues as the Today Show recently featured a weeklong series all about plastic surgery trends and one of the segments caught board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD’s attention; the five-minute facelift.

Be Back in Five Minutes, I Have to Get a Facelift. What?

As we age gravity sets in, even in our face, and some of us begin to look for ways to regain more definition in our cheeks without surgery. Plastic surgeon, Dr. Brian Glatt appeared on The Today Show to perform what he calls a five-minute facelift live on the air using a new filler approved by the FDA called Restylane Lyft. According to Glatt, the procedure is said to lift immediately and add volume to your face with the help of fillers and without the need to go under the knife.

What Is the Five Minute Facelift?

It’s basically a pumped up filler. Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane-L®, is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel used to correct volume loss and treat wrinkles in the face. It is the first and only FDA-approved filler indicated to provide a lift to cheeks and add volume to correct and smooth smile lines (nasolabial folds).

“It’s a newer brand of fillers, different than filling lines or little areas,” said Dr. Glatt. “These fillers are very powerful. [The fillers are] dense, they’re rich, and they’re capable of just really filling and giving a robust difference in a very short period.”

Dr. Glatt told Hoda Kotb that the five-minute facelift lasts for two years, is completely reversible, has minimal side effects and is more powerful than traditional fillers.

So what’s the catch?

The Art and Science of Five Minute Facelifts

“I did not really see anything new in the segment” said Dr. Wigoda. “The only thing the doctor did was fill up her cheeks. I thought they were actually overfilled relative to the rest of her face”.

So is the five-minute facelift the next best thing?

“To use the term facelift is a stretch. A facelift does much more than filling the cheek area,” said Dr. Wigoda. “I personally wound have used the product in other areas of the face as well, like the nasolabial folds. I think she looked a little swollen rather than refreshed at the end. In addition, because the body starts breaking down fillers as soon as they are injected, I would be surprised if the effects of the product will last two years. Here is a good example for the consumer to be wary of claims made by companies or their spokesperson. In my experience, the benefits of a product in the cosmetic industry are often exaggerated. It is always best to ask the opinion of your own doctor.”

3 Reasons Why Plastic Surgery Sky Rockets During the Holidays

Gifting Plastic Surgery South Florida Board-Certified Dr WigodaAll I want for Christmas is— Botox?  Is there a plastic surgeon on your holiday list?

According to the Wall Street Journal, plastic surgeons perform 20 percent more surgeries in December than the rest of year. Four reasons to explain this increase of plastic surgery is the ability to take time off, desire to look the best for the holidays, the “gifting” of plastic surgery, and insurance deductible.

Three Reasons to Explain the Increase of Holiday Plastic Surgery:

1. Time Off

The holiday season is when most people are off from work. This fact is important because after having plastic surgery, patients deal with the embarrassment of swelling. The holidays present the perfect opportunity for patients to heal without having to run into co-workers or neighbors. The off time influences what type of plastic surgery patients choose to have during the holiday season. Patients often wait until the holidays to have surgeries that require longer recovery times such as a tummy tuck, which takes about four weeks to heal and six weeks to resume all activities including exercising.

2. Desire To Look The Best For Holidays

The rise of plastic surgery during the holidays also can be because of the desire to look the best before seeing friends and family at the holiday gatherings. The popularity of selfies has caused the increase of plastic surgery and the around the holiday season even more. Plastic surgeons say that the increase of holiday surgery is because of the insecurities that social media and selfies can breed.

3. Receiving Plastic Surgery As A Christmas Gift

For some plastic surgery is at the top of their wish list for Santa and the holidays. Patients ask their love ones to gift them with plastic surgery instead of traditional gifts. According to an ABC News report, the gifting of cosmetic surgery is up 20 to 35 percent.  It is not uncommon for couples to give each other plastic surgery instead of a gift. Gift cards are not just for larger procedures, but offices often have gift cards with smaller amounts as well.

Pre-Wedding Plastic Surgery? Dr. Paul Wigoda Shares Tips for Your Big Event

wedding plastic surgery
Here comes the bride… and the groom… and the mother? And the father?

When it comes to weddings, not only do brides and grooms say ‘I do’ to plastic surgery, the entire family and bridal party want to look their best on the big day. Even celebrities like born this way, Lady Gaga wants pre-wedding plastic surgery for instant results to look flawless on her wedding day.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD reported that when wedding season comes around, “dozens of wedding parties make their way into [his] office to see what they can sneak in plastic surgery procedure-wise in time for their big days.”

“Many people come in before an event, whether they are the bride, bridesmaid, mother, or just a guest. It can be weddings or any other important event where a group of people are gathering to celebrate… a baby shower, graduations, a charity event, and so on,” Dr. Wigoda adds. “Unfortunately, some have come too close to the date where it would be risky to have the surgery because they may still be bruised or swollen.”

A RealSelf Trends article recently reported that women spend more time researching plastic surgery over their weddings, of the brides surveyed in the RealSelf article 70% said they researched two to five different doctors, while 11%  some looked at six to ten doctors said they looked at six to ten doctors and 5% vetted ten or more. It is important that if you’re doing your research, you should know when to have your plastic surgery procedure done so you can look your best on the big day.

Remember Timing is Everything

“The best advice,” Dr. Wigoda offered, “Is to plan ahead. And if you are thinking about plastic surgery, try to have it done 4 to 6 months prior. If it’s just an injectable or peel, try to do it about a month before the event.”

Considering plastic surgery work before a wedding, high school reunion or special event? Here are some of the additional plastic surgery timelines Dr. Wigoda wants you to keep in mind.

  1. Painless Breast Implants – Plan at least 3-6 months in advance to give the implants some time to drop and appear more natural. If possible, sooner is always better.
  2. Liposuction – Get this procedure done at least 3 months in advance as it generally takes 1-3 months for all of the swelling to be gone to be able to see the final contour.
  3. Botox and Fillers – Give yourself at least 3-4 weeks between injections for your event and you’re smooth to go!
  4. Facelift – This procedure lasts longer than Botox and fillers so it’s no surprise that the healing process is also a bit longer. For truly age-reversing results, allow 3-6 months before you make your grand debut.
  5. Browlift – Spending sleepless nights worrying about your special event? No need to worry about looking tired! Allow 3-6 months healing time before the event.
  6. Facials and Peels – A facial might cause more breakouts, even if the aesthetician did everything right because your skin isn’t used to stirring up bacteria during extractions. Never have a facial within a week of an important event and should really plan closer to 3-4 weeks out.

Picture-Perfect Selfie

At big events, it’s OK to want to look just right in that selfie with your new husband or picture-perfect with your family, and enhance your appearance with some plastic surgery procedures you may have been putting off. The key to plastic surgery for your wedding or big event is to give yourself time to heal.

Research “The One”

Don’t forget, choosing “the one” to do your plastic surgery is the most important step in getting your plastic surgery done on the big day. Read this recent article on a few things you will need to do before committing to a plastic surgeon and going under the knife.

If you’re considering plastic surgery before a wedding, a high school reunion or a big event in your life, contact Dr. Wigoda today to discuss your timeline and options for best results.

Plastic Surgery’s Newest Trend: Non-Invasive Procedures

How Cosmetic Surgery Is Becoming More Simple - Facebook

Plastic surgery has come a long way over the years, and the turn of the 21st century has brought about amazing advancements. Results that were once thought only achievable through a mythical fountain of youth were made possible by plastic surgery and now cosmetic surgery is becoming less complicated and results more attainable. How is this possible?

The answer is simple really…

Non-invasive procedures with nip and tuck results.

Last month, we reported on The Today Show’s plastic surgery trends. The latest trend they shared was plastic surgery without the knife. Why? Non-invasive procedures strive to make plastic surgery less complicated.

People want to look as good as they feel, but oftentimes gravity gets in the way. New plastic surgery trends offer non-invasive options for people who want to slow the aging process without looking “worked on.” They want to look like a younger, refreshed version of themselves and rejuvenation results have never been more promising and within reach.

Plastic surgery procedures have evolved and as the options grow and change so do the clientele. People of all ages are seeking help from plastic surgeons to keep themselves up. Even more interesting, many of these plastic surgery patients are male. So many people are opting for non-invasive procedures because of the reduced risks, minimal downtime and the less permanent but still excellent results. While bruising and swelling may occur, non-invasive procedures are a great alternative to plastic surgery as it is ideal for those with busy schedules who can’t afford any downtime. In fact, some procedures are nicknamed lunchtime plastic surgery treatments because they’re just that quick!

Is your interest piqued? Great! Read on to see what less complicated plastic surgery procedures board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda recommends.

Fillers for Wrinkles

Wrinkles can be the result of any one, or combination of factors including loss of collagen, sun damage, smoking, alcohol consumption and also hormonal changes. Aging itself is a large contributing factor as collagen can decrease at a rate of 1 percent per year after age 40. Sun exposure accelerates the aging process and loss of collagen, resulting in the formation of wrinkles. To help slow down and lightly reverse the natural effects of aging, fillers like Botox, Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse® can make a subtle but noticeable difference that doesn’t look like the skin is stretched too tight.

Botox Brow Lifts

Botox is mainly used for the upper face including the upper forehead, crows feet and the glabellar area between the eyebrows. It has many uses but Botox brow lifts specifically focus on reversing the descent of eyebrows which has a tremendous effect on the “total” look of the person. Depending on whether the descent is more toward the middle or more toward the outside, the person may look angry, bored, or tired when they are not. Raising the brow “opens” the entire eye up. As a result the person looks more refreshed, awake, and happy. Botox brow lifts offer effective but less permanent results comparable to surgical brow lifts. The best part is, you can start small and if you’d like, do more after.

Kybella for Double Chins

Recently, the FDA approved a new drug called Kybella. The drug went through two clinical trials involving 1,022 adults with varying degrees of “submental fat.” The results were a noticeable reduction in fat! Kybella is approved as a “non-invasive in-the-office procedure” and sounds like a worthy alternative to liposuction, which targets the same fat but involves a lengthy procedure under local anesthesia.

“If the drug actually works as described, it will be very useful. However, I am skeptical that it will be as effective as liposuction. We will just have to wait to see how well it works, and more importantly, what the possible complications are,” said Dr. Wigoda.

Medical Facials and Peels

Medical facial services to combat the on-the-surface skin care problems plagued by men and women of any age. Medical aesthetics services are a lighter side of non-surgical cosmetic services that can protect against premature aging and also maximize the benefits of other procedures such as Botox and Fillers. For best results, enhance your medical facials with services like micro-needling, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion and chemical peels like Vi Peel.

Tip: VI Peel is formulated with a numbing agent, making it a perfect service to have before a Botox injection!

Micro-Needling

Micro-needling improves the appearance of fine wrinkles and acne scars by using tiny needle pricks around the problem area to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, collagen. This collagen induction therapy provides faster recovery than laser resurfacing and generally sees a 60% to 70% improvement in the broad acne scars with four to six treatments. Patients typically notice an immediate glow following their initial treatment but may exhibit slight redness for a few days as the skin heals.

Dermaplaning

If you want to get rid of dead skin cells, dermaplaning is a great exfoliator. Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and getting rid of the vellus hair (baby-fine hairs on your face,) along with giving your skin a brighter complexion. It is very similar to shaving and will hack off all your fine facial hairs (bonus!), but before you go buying fine facial razors, keep in mind that the best results come from professionals so your skin will feel silky smooth.

Truth: Vellus hair is soft and fine, and shaving them won’t make them thicker and coarser.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer to gently exfoliate the skin to diminish signs of aging. This non-invasive treatment is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks.

Chemical Peels (including the VI Peel)

VI Peels are a safe, effective approach to achieving younger looking skin and provide superior results within a week. Skin that is properly maintained through professional exfoliation treatments and appropriate home care products stays healthy, youthful, and radiant at any age. The plus of chemical peels such as VI Peels? A single VI Peel will achieve significant repair and impart a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true restorative, painless repair of damaged skin cells resulting from UV exposure and acne. Best of all, it is an aging preventative for younger patients with no visible damage. There are no restrictions following the VI Peels, normal activities may be resumed immediately after the peel. For patients who exercise routinely, low impact aerobic activity would be advised for 72-96 hours.

Non-invasive treatments can add up with multiple sessions, but the price tag is worth it for your peace of mind. Want to know what cosmetic treatments would work best for your problem areas? Contact Dr. Wigoda today for your free consultation.

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong Research Your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Mishaps and dangers can be shocking, sometimes tragic, for patients who don’t select a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Plastic surgery, no matter how routine or minor it is, is still surgery and must be taken seriously. TV shows like Botched! feature extreme cases that may be misleading and cause people to think “that will never happen to me.” However, just because your plastic surgeon hasn’t had a severe complication doesn’t mean you’re not at risk to experience plastic surgery gone wrong.

Dr. Wigoda stresses the importance of researching your plastic surgeon before any procedure. If a board-certified plastic surgeon advising you isn’t enough, just look at some of these patients’ horror stories who came to Dr. Wigoda for help after selecting the wrong plastic surgeon the first time around.

  1. Breast Implants Gone Wrong Testimonial, How Dr. Wigoda Made it Right
  2. Lipo Nightmare: Dr. Wigoda Saves Life with Grafting Procedure
  3. Second Time is the Charm: Patient Gets Corrective Augmentation

Here’s what you need to do before committing to a plastic surgeon and going under the knife:

1. Make sure your plastic surgeon has hospital privileges

If you’re having a plastic surgery procedure at an outpatient clinic, make sure that, like The Aesthetics Institute in Fort Lauderdale, the clinic conducting your surgery has been inspected and accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr Wigoda AAAASF Plastic Surgery Center

Next, confirm where the plastic surgeon has hospital privileges. Even though your plastic surgery won’t occur in the hospital, this is a crucial step because hospitals do background checks! Hospital privileges are granted to a plastic surgeon by a committee of other doctors who check their credentials and training. They are in turn approved by the chairman of the department.  Make sure that the plastic surgeon has privileges for exactly the procedure that you want performed. For example, dermatologists may have privileges to take care of skin problems but not for liposuction or a facelift in a hospital. If your plastic surgeon doesn’t have hospital privileges, that’s a huge red flag and you need to ask why.

2. Ask for “before and after” photos of other patients

You wouldn’t buy a car before test driving it, would you? While you can’t necessarily test drive your plastic surgeon or the results, other patients’ “before and after” photos are the closest thing to it! You need to evaluate the work that has been performed to feel confident this plastic surgeon will help you reach your post-op goals. Board-certified plastic surgeons are trained to take “before and after” photographs of all surgical procedures and these should be available for patients to review during consultations. It’s understandable if your plastic surgeon cannot readily show you a photo of every one of their patients as some may opt out; however, some references showcasing the procedure in which you’re interested should be available so that you can be confident in your decision. Do not agree to a procedure with a plastic surgeon whose results make you hesitant or if you don’t feel you’ve been fully briefed and educated on all aspects of the proposed procedure.

3. Talk to former and current patients

Again, you cannot test drive a plastic surgeon, but the next best thing is talking to someone who has already undergone the procedure you’re seeking! When applying to a new job, most people have several references and plastic surgeons are no different. If you ask for them, your plastic surgeon must be able to connect you with prior patients who can vouch, not just for their surgeon, but also for their results. Talk to former patients and ask about your surgeon’s bedside manner, availability, professionalism and anything else that will help ease your mind. Like in an interview, a person can ooze confidence and make you feel like they’re the right choice; however, if their references don’t check out, you shouldn’t check in.

Research Tip for Plastic Surgery: Check out the plastic surgeon’s reviews on Yelp or Facebook!

4. Make sure your doctor is aware of your medical history

If your plastic surgeon doesn’t ask about your medical history after the initial consultation, you should be concerned. There are risks to surgery and your plastic surgeon should not play them down in any way. Your surgeon needs to be aware of any current or past medical problems, drugs or supplements you’re taking, etc. The plastic surgeon must know about your lifestyle and activities in order to give accurate predictions of your surgery and recovery. By asking for a detailed medical history, your plastic surgeon conveys their concern first and foremost about your safety.

Depending on your age and health, a full preoperative evaluation including past medical history is very important.  They should request lab work for blood counts, coagulation profiles, and basic chemistry profiles. Additional tests may include chest x-rays and EKGs, which are commonly performed on people over 40.

5. Spot check! Is the office clean?

At some point during your initial visit, your plastic surgeon should give you a tour of the office so you have a chance to visualize where your procedure will occur. If you’re not provided one, ask! Scope out the surgery center and make sure that it’s up to your standards and you’re comfortable. Before you go under the knife, you need to make sure the office is clean, professional, and stocked with up-to-date equipment. If something looks off or inappropriate, be wary of it. The clinic where your surgery takes place should be as sterile as a hospital to reduce the risk of complications. The liposuction nightmare video referenced above is about a woman who lost most of her skin, and almost her life, to a flesh-eating bacteria that she was infected with during a routine liposuction procedure. Take a tour on your second consultation too. If something looked off on your first visit and wasn’t resolved by the second, take your business elsewhere.

Remember, plastic surgery is your decision and you shouldn’t settle for just any plastic surgeon. If you have any questions or want to book a free consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is an expert with zero lawsuits, zero disciplinary actions, zero major complications, zero patient deaths and thousands of happy patients, contact Dr. Paul Wigoda today!

Plastic Surgery and Age: What You Need To Know

The Today Shows Plastic Surgery week: Plastic Surgery and Age- What You Need To Dr Wigoda

As many of you avid television watchers may know, The Today Show did a week-long special on plastic surgery last week. Among the topics covered on the show was what each age bracket should know in terms of what will happen to your body, and what you can do enhance or hide it.

Age has been a trending topic this year with regards to plastic surgery. We’ve been hot on the debate about how young is too young for plastic surgery?, and now we want to know what Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD thinks about what you can do as you get older!

Dr. Wigoda, a board-certified plastic surgeon, brings years of plastic surgery on patients of all ages to the table. We asked him to set the record straight and give us some opinions on the facts being reported.

In Your 30s:

Here are some of the tips The Today Show gives for patients in their 30s on what they can expect:

  • As you transition from 20s to 30s, prevention is KEY! It’s crucial to start thinking about what you can do to avoid developing lines, wrinkles or crow’s feet.
  • Focusing on anti-aging routines can sustain a youthful look and delay the need for surgery. Small procedures are encouraged at this age, and as always, apply sunscreen regularly to preserve the skin.
  • Lines and wrinkles become most noticeable around the eyes, mouth and forehead.
  • Just getting started? Try Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or fillers to prevent lines.
  • If you’re struggling with heavy under-eye bags, NewBeauty recommends blepharoplasty. It’s a quick procedure with little time needed for recovery. It costs roughly $1500-$3500 and ranges from 1-3 hours.

Dr. Wigoda Says: “30s are a little too young to have your lower eyelids done. I would say the average is the late 40s and 50s.” You heard it right, make sure you are not spending over $1500 on a procedure that you may not need for another 10 to 20 years! However, if you are ready and eager to get something done, check out Dr. Wigoda’s Botox page and set up your free consultation!

In Your 40s:

Next up, we have the 40s! This age range is when many begin to consider some sort of plastic surgery or non-invasive procedure. This is the ideal age to be very aware of what will actually be beneficial and safe, and what will just burn a hole in your pocket and lead to complications! The Today Show stresses those in their 40s to be aware of:

  • Aging becomes apparent in this stage of your life — sun damage is more pronounced and the after-effects of having children start to take a toll on your body.
  • As your face begins to lose fat, dry spots may appear as well as wrinkles that come as a result of summer days in the sun.
  • Nasolabial folds (those lines from your nose to your mouth) become deeper and alter the shape of your face — changing it from round to square. For these, injectables make all the difference. They take fat from where you don’t want it via liposuction and put it where it is deficient, according to NewBeauty. Injectable procedures can cost anywhere from $1500-$3500, take 1-3 hours and entail 5-14 days of recovery.
  • Cellulite also worsens — estrogen levels decrease and fat builds in areas naturally most affected by cellulite. Although there’s no permanent remedy for cellulite, NewBeauty recommends massage techniques, heat to stimulate collagen (Accent) and Cellulaze, a surgery performed to reduce the bands. Cellulaze is roughly $5000-$7000, takes about 1-2 hours and requires 1-2 days for recovery.

Dr. Wigoda says: “Injectables cost about $650-$950 per syringe and most patients only need one syringe. Also, the actual procedure only takes about five to ten minutes and there is virtually no recovery period.” It is very important you be aware that you are not being overcharged for procedures. Also, do the research and read customer reviews and testimonials. Dr. Wigoda prides himself on painless procedures with minimal to no pain and recovery time. If a surgeon is telling you something will hurt or take longer than it should to heal, make sure you do your research on the procedure and that particular doctor!

“I think these cellulite procedures work less effectively than advertised. The procedures that are completely non-invasive are a waste of money as far as I am concerned. Whether the procedure is heating or cooling the fat/cellulite, it is a waste.” There is VERY little evidence to show that non-invasive cellulite procedures work for permanent results. Often, results only last for a matter of hours due to the cellulite tightening, not actually going away.

In Your 50s and 60s:

  • You may be experiencing some saggy skin, most notably in the neck and facial area. Fillers, injectables and other non-invasive treatments are not the way to go, though. Surgically removing it (with a facelift) is the only option.
  • Facelifts are said to make you look 10 years younger. According to NewBeauty, it helps to restore the natural curvature of the face, while also making it appear firmer. It comes at a hefty cost —procedures range from $4000-$25,000, last 3-6 hours and require 10-14 days of recovery.
  • Loose skin in the neck area can be easily removed with a neck lift. It can also be pretty pricey — between $3500 – $10,000 for 1-3 hour procedure with 7-14 days of recovery.

Dr. Wigoda says: “Patients in this age range definitely are candidates for fillers and Botox. However, these don’t tighten the neck or face skin. They can camouflage areas that are aging so they look more youthful.” One of the most important parts of plastic surgery is to make sure you are informed of what exactly is happening/being done to your body. Make sure you have a surgeon that will communicate with you and answer all of your questions. If you don’t know what to ask, check out these five important questions to ask about Botox!

Is Plastic Surgery a Must? Time Magazine Tells All

Does Plastic Surgery Choose You?

Time-Magazine-Nip Tuck or Else

In Time magazine cover story “Nip. Tuck. Or Else.,” columnist Joel Stein says when it comes to plastic surgery “you’re going to have to do it.” But Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda believes the choice is still yours.

Reality shows are demystifying surgery by showing it from the patient’s perspective, non-invasive procedures are becoming more affordable, and having work done is less taboo in general, but Dr. Wigoda, the board-certified plastic surgeon best known for his painless breast implant procedure, does not believe that women will HAVE to have cosmetic procedures done just because their friends are doing it as Time’s article concludes.

“Most could benefit from some types of procedures to look younger, but there is nothing that says you have to do them to succeed,” said Dr. Wigoda. “To look as young as your friends that are doing it, yes, you may have to unless you are genetically blessed, but if you are OK with aging naturally then there shouldn’t be an issue if you don’t do any procedures.”

The basic premise of Time’s article is that if you want to look good, you have to have procedures done. But that is a very general statement because many women take good care of themselves by avoiding sun damage, smoking, and perhaps are blessed genetically, and they will still look good naturally. Think Christie Brinkley.

Nip Tuck or Else Time Magazine Article Dr Wigoda Responds

While Dr. Wigoda and Stein may have different opinions on whether or not procedures must be done, they both agree that plastic surgery is a confidence booster.

RealSelf user Rosemary Hall’s plastic surgery journey was followed in the article. In the end, she chose non-invasive procedures that make her feel like a new person. She had liposuction on her chin and transferred the fat to fill under her eyes, her nasolabial  folds and marionette lines. And she’s very happy.

“I was just laid off, so I’m really glad I had the procedure done,” she said. “I’ll feel more confident on interviews, especially once the lipo scar on my chin has smoothed out.”

Hall recently looked at her wedding video and couldn’t focus on anything but her chin.

“Before if someone took a picture of me, I’d hate it and not look at it. Now I’m taking selfies,” she said.

In his own practice, Dr. Wigoda hears many similar stories. Women who have previously felt that they had to hide something or just weren’t 100 percent confident with one feature may sometimes describe their procedures as “life-changing” and more often than not wish that they had done the procedure sooner.

On why Dr. Wigoda believes we’re seeing more procedures done, he added:

“The fact is that most people, both men and women, don’t want to age gracefully. They want to stay looking young because they feel young, so if you feel young but look old, it’s not necessarily a good combination.”

Fortunately, the times are changing, and there are reasonable solutions to help people look as youthful as they feel. Cosmetic surgery is no longer taboo and many plastic surgeons offer reasonable payment plans and non-invasive options that are more affordable and require less recovery time.

Sure, it can be generalized that since we are now on the red carpet 24/7 posting pictures of ourselves on Facebook and Instagram, we can blame social media for the increase in procedures being done, but therein lies the main issue with this article. There is no need to “blame” anything because the end result is not anti-feminist or being forced upon people as the article implies.

Plastic surgery is a choice, and it’s not one that people are making to keep up with their friends. It’s something more personal that makes them feel like they’ve done something positive for themselves.
