Smoking Makes Nipples Fall Off? Dr. Paul Wigoda Says Yes!

Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda confirms that smoking can make your nipples fall off after certain surgeries.

“I encourage all my patients to quit smoking before surgery,” said Dr. Wigoda who pioneered the technique painless breast implants.

For decades the Surgeon General has warned that smoking can cause health complications. Yet the Center for Disease Control reports that 19% of Americans over the age of 18 smoke. Not only is smoking unhealthy in general and can lead to diseases like lung cancer, it can cause serious complications during and after plastic surgery.

First, smokers have a higher risk of developing respiratory complications, like pneumonia, with any surgery that requires general anesthesia. Second, there are many cosmetic procedures – such as facelifts, breast reductions or lifts, and tummy tucks – where large areas of skin and fat are undermined (separated from the tissue below) to tighten the skin. Blood flow to the skin decreases during these procedures. If the skin does not receive the minimum amount of blood flow needed to be healthy and survive the surgery, the skin dies and the person ends up with an unsightly wound.

In people with healthy blood circulation, this isn’t a problem. However, smoking inhibits the circulation of blood because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. It causes blood vessels to constrict (close). This constriction further reduces blood to flow to the areas that are trying to heal. As a result, the skin or other tissue – including fat, nipples, and areolas – can die.

Dr. Wigoda specializes in breast implant surgery and breast reconstruction surgery and says, “In my practice, I ask all patients who smoke to quit at least one month prior to their surgery if they are having a procedure that involves undermining skin. Although there is less risk with breast augmentation or liposuction procedures, I still encourage all of my patients to quit smoking because of the damage it does to the body.”

Patients who smoke age quicker, their skin is less healthy, and they lose elasticity faster – all of which makes them look older than they are. Most Americans only think lung cancer or emphysema is the primary risks of smoking. The reality is that smoking affects the entire body, including all organs, because it affects all the blood vessels. This is why smokers are more likely to have heart attacks and strokes.

To look your best, feel your best, and increase your chances of having a great outcome from cosmetic surgery, give up the unhealthy habit of smoking.

Dr. Wigoda Plastic Surgery Financing $99/Month

Smart plastic surgery decisions can be priceless, but not without a price tag. When the plastic surgery investment does not always fit the cash flow, Dr. Paul Wigoda offers several different plastic surgery financing options to help assure the decisons are based on quality versus best price.

Often procedures such as breast augmentations or tummy tucks can be financed for little or no interest, or with a convenient payment plan. Many patients are able to pay as little as $99 per month via Care Credit, MedChoice Financial, Capital One, or Chase.

Despite the cost of plastic surgery, Dr. Wigoda urges potential patients to shop for quality over price and to use our plastic surgery checklist to assist in asking the right questions. Don’t fall for the ‘too good to be true’ South Florida advertisements that promise inexpensive procedures that may be risky. For more information on these centers click here.

South Florida Plastic Surgeon Dr. Wigoda Shares Insight on Breast Augmentation Economy

Paul Wigoda, MD has been saying that elective plastic surgery procedures will return as the economy strengthens since the New Year. Here is an infographic from DocShop.com that further drives this point home.

Over $10 billion is spent on surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures each year and over $1.1 billion of that goes toward breast augmentations. Over the last ten years, the number of breast augmentations has steadily increased, until the rough economy caused procedures to dip from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, however, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, this number started to increase again, climbing over 2% to nearly 300,000 breast augmentations.

Best Celebrity Boob Jobs and My Breast Implants by Dr. Wigoda 2 Months Later

Painless breast implants diaries check in two months later. So it’s been two months since I went “under the knife” for the first time in my life! The good news: It was painless! I guess that’s why Dr. Wigoda calls it painless breast implants! And for the bad news…I don’t have any. I guess if I had to come up with some bad news, it’s that none of my old bras fit.

I just looked back at some of my before and after pictures to see if I miss the old me. I decided to do a Google search (because that’s what I do!) for celebrity before and after boob jobs to see the good, the bad and the ugly.

After comparing my before and after breast surgery by Dr. Paul Wigoda, I am even more impressed and happy. I feel really bad for Tory Spelling and Tara Reid! But Demi Moore and Christina Aguilera made out pretty good! Kind of like me!

I am settling in to my new body. I did yoga for the first time since my painless breast implant surgery. I pushed myself too far, thinking I could just pick up where I left off two months ago, this month and pulled a muscle, but that lasted about a week. My breast implants are “dropping” into place and so is my life ironically! Maybe this is what I needed all along. They say sometimes you feel good and everything falls into place! I think Dr. Wigoda’s painless breast implant results stack up pretty good to Demi Moore and Christina Aguilera.

One Month After Painless Breast Implant Surgery by Dr. Wigoda in Fort Lauderdale

Me less than a month at Painless Breast Implants

Me less than a month after Painless Breast Implant Surgery

You would never guess I had breast augmentation surgery one month ago if you looked at my schedule. I’ve been to Jupiter, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Virginia Beach, North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Chicago and San Francisco. Two concerts, a 4-day business conference and I started running on the treadmill last week.

My scars are barely noticeable and I feel like my new additions have always been part of my body. My implants are still sitting a little high on my chest, but they have dropped a little each day, so I think I am on track for the two to three months for overall results.

To Massage or not to Massage after Breast Implants?
When I run into girls who have breast implants and we share the common bond, everyone tells me to massage my breasts for best breast results. So that’s what I have been doing, and it helps!

I’ve been drinking lots of water and exercising more too.

What has changed since my painless breast implant surgery with Dr. Wigoda?

My bra size! I’m still wearing the sports bras and found the best selection at Sears and some sexy bandeau style bras without underwire by Calvin Klein at Macys.

My shirts, tops, blouses and pajama tops don’t fit the same: some fit better than others so I have had to start over with new stuff. Great excuse to go shopping, especially online on sites like Taigan.com. They are just a click away.

I wore a bikini top for the first time this weekend, which was exciting and invigorating. Confidence booster 100%.

What do you tell the kids about breast implants?
I was nervous what my eight-year-old daughter would think or say. But it was actually pretty easy. She did notice, but when she asked “why are mommy’s boobs bigger and what are those little cuts,” I told her it was like when girls get a different hair color or hair cut – sometimes, they might want a different boob size, bigger or smaller. She said, “Ohhhhhh!”
That was easy…and true!

First 7 Days After Painless Breast Implant Plastic Surgery with Dr. Wigoda

So I had my painless breast implant surgery last Friday, took the weekend to rest and recover, by Monday I was back at work full force and more.

Dr Wigoda Painless Breast Implant Patient Doing Sit Ups

Can you believe it's only been 7 days?

I went for my follow-up visit with Dr. Wigoda Monday morning for a clear check up. Then a three-hour drive back to my new hometown of Celebration, Florida, so no painkillers or muscle relaxers for Lisa in the driver’s seat.  I did fine and really did not need them!

I also found out I have no stitches to remove, they dissolve! Wow, pretty cool and an added bonus, thanks Dr. Wigoda!

The first week my “new additions” seem to be settling into my body, but it s still a little weird looking in the mirror. Getting dressed each day is a challenge only because nothing fits the same and I’m not fashionably prepared with all the style necessities.

Some tips

  1. Sports Bra – pre-surgery! – Go to a Sears or Target and buy a whole bunch of sports bras in all colors and styles. Sears had the best selection (believe it or not) and let me just clarify; I have not shopped at Sears for anything but electronics since I was in 7th grade. But I must admit, they had cool stuff and the price and selection were a definite plus.
  2. T-shirts (James Perse, Spendid, Vixon) that are comfy and form fitting – this has been my most worn item; a cool crew neck form fitting T with a good sports bra. So while I am swollen, I still feel good and underexposed but flattering to my new shape
  3. Juicy Couture – type track jackets – these work well and help support you through the first couple weeks of transition.
  4. Go get a facial the first week– it made me feel even better, like a new you is starting and you are cleansing for a new beginning!
  5. Stay as active as you were – I started back on the treadmill one week after surgery, slowly but at least getting that mental and physical stimulation

I wouldn’t say to exactly follow my lead; I think I over did it. We left for a family vacation on Thursday (6 days after surgery) and carrying luggage and weaving through an airport is probably pushing it.

I went to the gym and did the treadmill, walked slowly and did some abs! Not bad for one week later!

I will be spending the next few days on the beach in Hatterass North Carolina – a little premature 7 days after Dr. Wigoda’s painless breast implant surgery, but here I am writing this post.
