Plastic Surgery: Rhinoplasty Patient Shares Her Journey On Instagram

Rhinoplasty patient opens up about the process of plastic surgery.

Jenny knew she wanted a nose job (otherwise known as rhinoplasty) before she was even a teenager. The 26-year-old healthcare professional from Miami decided after graduating college that she now had time to have the procedure. While she was hesitant to share details of other plastic surgery encounters she’d had previously, this time around she wants to share her story and help others who might be seeking similar procedures.

How One Patient Shares Searched and Found Her Answers Using Instagram

Jenny’s Rhinoplasty Plastic Surgeon Search

Jenny started her plastic surgery research where most people do, on Google. And in Miami, there are a lot of “plastic surgeons near me.”

She filtered them through by thoroughly looking at websites, researching if plastic surgeons were board certified and scouting for reviews of the surgeons.

She finally landed on Paul Wigoda, MD, who has been named one of America’s top surgeons by the Consumer Research Council of America, and who prides himself on pioneering the technique ‘painless breast implants.’

While she had a plastic surgery consultation with a plastic surgeon when she was a teen, Jenny wasn’t quite ready to take the leap at a young age. This time around, her only plastic surgery consultation was with Dr. Wigoda himself.

Instagram and Plastic Surgery

During her quest to seek plastic surgery, Jenny would look up hashtags on Instagram like #rhinoplasty or #nosejob. She searched out stories from real experiences to understand what the process would be like.

“As I did my searches for plastic surgeons, I also looked for, you know, real-life experience, with you know, having a rhinoplasty, and that’s how I ended up on Instagram because I would just search by hashtags.

She wanted to know what she was getting herself into. And she did. Pages with people sharing their stories of bruises and blood – the ugly side of plastic surgery – showed up in her searches. “It’s not a simple before and after,” she said.

And that’s what inspired Jenny to share her own process on her own Instagram feed. She even started a countdown before the rhinoplasty.

“I was hesitant about it because my nose was always my biggest insecurity…but I’m like, you know what this nose is going to be gone very soon so let’s do this,” she said about deciding to share her rhinoplasty plastic surgery journey on social media.

Jenny previously had a breast augmentation, but never discussed her procedure. “Although I never discussed it, there were some people that noticed, and they would actually ask me about it behind the scenes.”

Before, During, + After Rhinoplasty

This is what convinced Jenny to start talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly about her rhinoplasty. She wanted to be a source of knowledge and experience people could go to if they had questions. She wanted to give back like other Instagrammers had done for her when she was curious of the truth behind a “nose job.”

The Before

Dr. Wigoda kept her in the loop about everything.

While she doesn’t like needles, Jenny said she always felt safe.

“I was in good hands, I felt comfortable. Scared, but comfortable.”

And Dr. Wigoda prepped her for the after too – like keeping frozen peas around.

The After

Jenny didn’t have any pain, just discomfort. Her bruising went away quickly, and other than occasionally waking up, she was able to sleep.

“It was a rough recovery but they gave me everything I needed to make it as smooth as possible,” Jenny said about Dr. Wigoda.

Her cast came off eight days after surgery.

“Once that cast comes off on day eight, I was like here we go, like nothing happened. So it was nice, it was nice to just be able to go back to work and people weren’t like, “Hey what happened to you?” Jenny said.

Her Advice to You

Do a lot of thorough research. That’s Jenny’s number one advice.

Living in Miami, she said she hears a lot of stories of surgeries going wrong. She advises to not go to a doctor just because you hear a lot about them and instead rely on your own independent research.
She also advises making sure the plastic surgeon is board-certified and qualified.

Her last piece of advice is to seek out any bad reviews of doctors, especially if those reviews concern safety. She said she purposefully looked for bad reviews of Dr. Wigoda, but never found anything that jumped out at her.

Plastic surgery is a controversial subject that most people feel uncomfortable talking about. But with the rise of social media and people like Jenny sharing their plastic surgery stories, it’s easier and easier to understand that these procedures are safe and life changing so that everyone can feel beautiful in their own skin.

Dr. Wigoda Shares 🔥 Hot 2017 Plastic Surgery Trends

2017 Plastic Surgery Trends
2016 was a big year for comebacks and everyone was working the old trends in a fresh way like playing Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo NES, sporting crop tops, and buying chokers… Now in 2017, we’re looking forward to seeing what resurfaces! Luckily terms like ‘phat’ are still out but when it comes to 2017 plastic surgery trends “fat” is definitely in!

Many patients come to Dr. Wigoda’s surgery center seeking liposuction for problem areas like their belly or thighs and are surprised to learn that they can use the fat removed from those procedures to help rejuvenate other areas on their body. While these areas may not have been a high priority originally, it’s ideal to do both plastic surgery procedures at the same time because once the fat is removed you can’t save it for reuse later.

You may not have considered using liposuctioned fat for fat transfers before but there are a few reasons Dr. Wigoda thinks this plastic surgery trend will be hot in 2017! Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body but there are few that would warrant a fat transfer. These are some of the top ones!

Butt I hadn’t thought about that…

2016 was also a big year for rounder, fuller bottoms but did you know you don’t need butt implants to save a figure that may be falling or flat?

A Brazilian butt lift is an augmentation procedure that uses fat from liposuction to fill and reshape the butt cheeks and outer hips to help address sagginess, asymmetry, and more. The combination of removing fat from other areas like the abs, back, and thighs and adding it to the buttocks creates a more sensual and sexy appearance, not just from the back, but from the front and sides as well.

Fat + Facelifts = 😊

When it comes to facelifts, most people scoff at the idea of transferring fat because it seems counter-productive. You want to tighten the skin and muscles, not make your face rounder, right?

Wrong!

Combining fat transfers with face and neck lifts can actually make patients look even more rejuvenated and youthful. Faces typically thin with age and with decrease in weight and you may even lose fat through atrophy. Facelifts on their own don’t necessarily bring that back but when fat transfers are added to cheeks, nasolabial folds and marionette lines in addition to traditional facelifts, they create an even more youthful appearance.

Whether or not one of these 2017 plastic surgery trends are on your to-do list, why not call Dr. Wigoda for a free plastic surgery consultation? It’s a new year, let’s renew you.

How Social Media Influences Lip Injections

social media influence on lip injections

The duck face was born the same day someone discovered the Myspace mirror selfie. Although it may seem silly and everyone has definitely seen their share of people doing it wrong, the “duck face” and variations of people puckering their lips in photos is actually quite brilliant as it creates the illusion of more defined bone structure and acts as instant lip injections.

Now we’ve come a long way since the bathroom mirror selfie and now sharing on social media video outlets like Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook Live, Periscope and more make it difficult to capture that perfect pout… Just try talking while pouting! As live video on social media has taken off, so have lip procedures which are the second-fastest growing facial procedures in the United States since 2000 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Data doesn’t lie, trends are showing that social media influences lip injections and Dr. Paul Wigoda thinks this is why.

Selfie Smile Symmetry

social media selfie influences lip injections

Lip injections don’t have to leave you with an iconic pout like Angelina Jolie. In fact, your plastic surgeon’s goal should be to complement and enhance your facial features, not create a cartoonish look like Jessica Rabbit.

Many men and women are looking to enhance their smiles in a way that looks as natural as possible and the best looking lips aren’t always the fullest. Lip injections can do more for you than simply adding volume as fillers allow you to alter the size and shape of your lips and can make your face more symmetrical. People often think that facelifts, eyelid lifts and Botox are the way to go for dramatic results but are quite surprised after they see how much lip injections can define and change a person’s face, even if it’s a subtle difference.

The Non-Permanent Pout

do selfies influence plastic surgery

If you haven’t had plastic surgery before but are looking to make a change, your lips are a great place to start as it’s not as dramatic as some other plastic surgery procedures but can still make a big difference. When it comes to lip injections, many of the options are temporary or reversible so it feels like less of a commitment.

Temporary lip injections and fillers allow you to alter your smile for just a few months at a time before wearing off. You can either come back every few months to maintain your lips or simply choose not to. Regardless, it’s a temporary way to try out an all-new look with minimal recovery time!

In the age of the video selfie, lip injections are a great way to make that pout picture-perfect. You can change the shape of your lips as subtly or as dramatically as you want and, depending on which procedure you opt for, you can always go bigger the next time you come in for injections. To help determine which procedure and shape will help enhance your face, schedule a free virtual or in-person plastic surgery consultation with Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda today!

Top 5 Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men

Top 5 Plastic surgery for men

Men are overcoming the sexist stigma of plastic surgery and are opting for procedures to fix issues that have bothered them for years! Last year, for the first time ever, 40 percent of the breast reductions performed were on men. They want to enhance their exterior appearance to more closely match interior ideals. And, just as for women, plastic surgery for men may be medically beneficial, mentally vital, or simply satisfying.

Fort Lauderdale board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda has been doing plastic surgery for men and women alike for over 17 years and has found that plastic surgery for men has been steadily increasing. In 2015, these were the top five plastic surgery procedures men had requested:

1. Liposuction

Dad bods may have been the “it” thing for a while, but trends fade and so can the fat. Let’s face it, sometimes those last few pounds can be stubborn and the older you get the harder you need to work to maintain your fit figure. Liposuction allows patients to sculpt problem areas and help them to show off their progress. The plastic surgery procedure itself has been around for more than 30 years and becomes more and more common every year, lately even more so in men! Liposuction can be used to slim hips and thighs and flanks, flatten the abdomen, eliminate a double chin, and more but liposuction for men is most popular for the belly, love handle, and chest areas.

2. Rhinoplasty/Nose Surgery

In films, it may not be as frequent as rhinoplasty for women but don’t let that fool you, nose jobs for men are almost as common in the real world. Even Hollywood’s finest actors have considered and even gotten nose surgery to help them fix a feature that they weren’t 100 percent confident in. Household names like Zac Efron, Ryan Gosling, and Ashton Kutcher have had minor work done to enhance the face’s most prominent feature. Maybe there was an old injury that didn’t heal right or something minor like a bump, flared nostrils or asymmetry that you wish you could change. Nose surgery, also known as Rhinoplasty, doesn’t have to be extreme to make a big difference, and minor alterations like adjusting how the nasal tip droops, plunges or is enlarged in general can have a huge impact on the overall look of the nose.

3. Eyelid Surgery

A simple yet dramatic way for men to instantly improve their looks and become more confident is eyelid surgery. Many times people judge their appearance as a whole and don’t realize that a key feature may be the culprit, or that something so simple as your eyes can make such a huge impact on how people see you. If you have lower-eyelid puffiness, dark circles or drooping upper lids, others may assume that you are fatigued, angry, or unhappy. However, when your eyes are bright and alert, you appear energized, well-rested, and in control. Eyelid surgery can remove excess or loose skin, reduce puffiness and fine wrinkles in the upper and lower eyelids and, in some cases dark circles.

4. Gynecomastia aka Male Breast Reduction

Much like those last few pounds of stubborn fat, gynecomastia, also known as “man boobs,” can be present through no fault of your own and may be nearly impossible to tone no matter how hard you work out. An estimated 40 to 60% of men have extra fat and or glandular tissue in one or both breasts and there is no known cause in the majority of cases, but that doesn’t make men feel any less self-conscious about having it. Male breast reduction surgery can help. The procedure removes the excess tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases your plastic surgeon can remove excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured. The results of the Gynecomastia are significant and permanent!

5. Facelifts and Neck Lifts

Forty is the new 30 and who says 60 can’t be sexy? Some of the most visible signs of aging first appear on the face and sometimes the way we look on the outside does not reflect the energy and youthfulness we feel on the inside. If you’d like to look as good as you feel, aface or neck lift can remove years and give patients a firmer, fresher look. Not ready for the full plastic surgery procedure yet? You’re never too young to start. Facelifts may seem to turn back the hands of time but for best results in the future, it’s important to do regular maintenance before it’s necessary. The Vampire Facelift is a non-surgical option that is similar to injecting fillers (think Botox) but puts your own blood to work!

There are multiple options for all of these popular male plastic surgery procedures but for best results, the key to a successful surgery is to research and trust the judgment and experience of the plastic surgeon doing the procedure. To discuss your plastic surgery options book your free plastic surgery consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda today!

Priapus Shot (P-Shot): Dr. Paul Wigoda Helps Men Bring Their Sexy Back

Ft Lauderdale Priapus Shot aka P-Shot- Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD Helps Men Bring Their Sexy Back

Is the P-Shot (Priapus Shot) the answer for men to get their sexy back? Advanced technology allows expert physicians to offer men solutions for a variety of sexual challenges. Dr. Paul Wigoda offers a treatment that uses cells from your body to transform the look and function of your penis. The P-Shot uses platelet-rich plasma taken from your body, then injected into the parts of your penis where it will be the most effective.

You are not alone; sexual dysfunction impacts up to 50% of men. But regardless of the degree of dysfunction, the P-Shot can have both immediate and long-term results.

For years, we’ve heard that it’s a frustrating condition that men of all ages deal with at some point in their lives, but especially, as they age. Perhaps it’s not erectile dysfunction that you struggle with but instead have felt frustrated by a lack of penis size or a shape you just don’t like. Penis issues are incredibly frustrating and embarrassing. Finding solutions can be even more challenging.

The P-Shot “Up” Side

You’ve probably heard about Viagra or other erectile dysfunction medicines. But have you heard of the Priapus shot (also known as the P-shot)? Medicine can be helpful, but they often bring with them a number of unpleasant side effects. For some people, this sometimes makes the whole point of taking the medicine not worth it.

So what is the alternative? An innovative treatment that uses your own cells to transform the performance of your penis. The P-Shot uses platelet-rich plasma taken from your body, using a proprietary technique, the growth factors are extracted from your blood and concentrated into the PRP. The PRP is then injected into areas of the penis that are most important for sexual response. Don’t worry, the injection sites are numbed with a local anesthetic cream before it is injected, so you can enjoy a painless treatment. It is then processed in the office, creating the product needed for the treatment.

What To Expect from the P-Shot?

95% of men treated experience successful results.*

Unlike many of the other treatments for male sexual dysfunction, the P-Shot is a stress-free non-surgical treatment. The Priapus Shot can be done in such a way so that certain areas of the penis are enlarged or enhanced. It can also help with premature ejaculation and can increase sensation, while improving sexual performance. The platelet-rich plasma stimulates the tissues in the penis, causing them to grow and rejuvenate. You might not be able to turn back the clock, but you can sure feel like it!

If you’re already taking Viagra or another medicine to help with erectile dysfunction and other issues, you can combine it with the P-Shot for a powerful effect. The P-Shot will allow your tissues to regrow in a youthful way, while the medicine you are already taking can magnify the entire process. You may not have had impressive results with the medicine alone, but just wait until you’ve had the P-Shot procedure done. You are certain to be satisfied with the outcome.

High Performance and Provider Limited

This is a patented product and procedure, so you won’t be able to go to any healthcare provider or doctor to have it done. Don’t forget to do your research because to do the non-surgical procedure a doctor must be specially trained.

If you are in the Fort Lauderdale area, Dr. Paul Wigoda offers this non-surgical and regenerative treatment to his patients with impressive results. He has been specially trained to administer the procedure to men who are suffering from all sorts of penis problems. There is also another version for women called the O-Shot, in which PRP is injected into a woman’s clitoris and vagina.

You can read more about the P-Shot and O-Shot on his website. Be sure to call or request an online appointment to schedule a free P-Shot consultation. Perhaps it’s time that you found the solution that you’ve been looking for and gain your sexy back in the bedroom.

Give Your Booty a Lift with the Brazilian Butt Lift

Dr. Wigoda Brazilian Butt Lift

Dr. Paul Wigoda’s Brazilian Butt Lift plastic surgery procedure is quickly becoming one of the most sought after procedures in plastic surgery! All over the world, the skinny slim look that was once coveted in women is being replaced with a full, healthy figure. Especially in South Florida, where as we shared with The Sun Sentinel earlier this year, a big rear end is a positive thing, (thanks to Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj.)

So how does a Brazilian Butt Lift work? What are the In’s and Out’s? Is the plastic surgery procedure right for you? We are going to walk you through what you can expect if you decide to add a little more junk in your trunk!

Lift Your Butt To A New Level!

“The backside is now at the front of everyone’s minds.” As Dr. Wigoda’s blog post regarding the popularity of butt lifts so accurately states! Do you want to know more about the big booty basics? Dr. Wigoda is here to explain what you can expect from this popular plastic surgery procedure!

before and after brazilian butt lift dr wigoda ft lauderdale

Dr. Paul Wigoda Case Study: Before and After Brazilian Butt Lift

7 Tips on What to Expect from the Brazilian Butt Lift

  1. The butt lift enhances the size, shape, and appearance of the buttock using the patient’s own fat cells.

  2. The Brazilian Butt Lift plastic surgery procedure will lift the buttocks to a higher position, add volume, enhance its shape and firmness, and accentuate the body’s curves.

  3. It’s important to note that this procedure is NOT an implant and looks and feels incredibly more natural than an implant. While implants use to be the only way to gain a fuller and more voluminous backside, medical advances have switched to the fat transfer method. This method has been proven to be safer, and more practical.

  4. The fat is obtained through liposuction, typically of the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, and/or upper arms. The ideal candidate has enough excess fat in these areas such that there is enough fat to enhance the buttock.

  5. You may be asked to GAIN WEIGHT before the procedure in order to have enough fat cells to transfer (that’s right, all the ice cream and pizza you want!)

  6. The Brazilian Butt Lift not only enhances the size and shape of the buttock, but reduces the excess fat in all areas that are liposuctioned (gain a butt, lose some of that stubborn thigh fat, win-win right?)

  7. The incisions made for both the liposuction and the reinjection of the fat are quite small and often hidden. Scars are usually minimal with this plastic surgery procedure.

3 Tips to Safely Lift That Butt

We already know from our 2015 What’s In What’s Out list that Brazilian Butt Lift’s are rapidly gaining popularity. With the end of the year fast approaching, maybe a Brazilian Butt Lift will be added to your 2016 list! That being said, it is important to take note of these three tips before choosing a plastic surgeon….

  1. Research. Make sure to research your plastic surgeon! Brazilian Butt Lift is popular today because surgical techniques have drastically improved which give plastic surgeons the ability to consistently achieve great results. Make sure your plastic surgeon is using tested and true techniques! You may have to pay a little more, but your
health is always worth the price.

  2. Read Testimonials and Reviews. Remember past patient’s testimonials tell the truth, believe what you read and read plenty from multiple sources and sites!

  3. Always Ask Questions. This is one of the most important points I cannot possibly stress enough. Never feel like any question is off the table! This is your body and you are in control of what happens to it! Any good surgeon will be patient and understanding and take the time to answer everything you ask.

Do you want to learn more about the Brazilian Butt Lift? Check out our website or book a free plastic surgery consultation with Dr. Wigoda today, and you will be one step closer to that 2016 Kim K booty!

An Inspirational Story of a Plastic Surgeon and Breast Cancer Survivor

Without luck on her side, she relied on faith, family, and newfound angel, Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD.
Immerse yourself in this heart-wrenching true story of pain, loss, and triumph, an inspiring tale for anyone who has ever been affected either emotionally or physically by breast cancer.

breast cancer survivor marcia beaird dr wigoda

In May of 2005, this breast cancer survivor underwent a routine plastic surgery procedure with a plastic surgeon in Miami, unaware of what would follow.  Forty-eight hours after the surgery, she was attacked by a flesh-eating bacteria which had spread to all of the areas she had her plastic surgery procedure. She was rushed to Broward Health suffering miserably, as over 60% of her skin was irreparably damaged; she was in agony, on the verge of death.

Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD was called to treat her. He emergently took her to the operating room, and had to remove most of her skin and fatty tissue in her trunk and thighs to remove the dead infected tissue and stop the infection from spreading further. Due to the massive infection which had spread to her bloodstream, her heart stopped twice during the operation but miraculously, she was brought back to life and survived the night. She was induced into a coma for three months during which time she underwent multiple surgeries to remove more skin and then replace it with skin grafts.  She then had to learn to walk all over again, while searching for a reason to go on, amid excruciating pain, significant deformities, and crushing medical debt.

Dr. Wigoda saved her life and supported her on a grueling path to normalcy. Unfortunately, her trauma wasn’t over, and he would have to save her again. Two years after her trauma, her breasts became enlarged, swollen and painful, from the steroid treatments she required to keep her going as her new skin adjusted.  To ease her pain, Dr. Wigoda scheduled her for a routine breast reduction, but to his dismay, found cancer during the surgery. Less than six weeks after hearing the new diagnosis, she underwent a double mastectomy, with Dr. Wigoda performing follow-up reconstruction.  She had walked a difficult path, losing most of her skin and both breasts, but by the end of 2008 she had new breasts in place and was cancer-free, having overcome every obstacle in her path.

History tells us the most notable winners usually suffer heartbreaking obstacles before they find triumph.  They won because they refused to be discouraged by defeat and instead found courage, strength, and character.  – excerpt from her book

And she had many defeats!

Here are words to live by:

We can choose every day which attitude we’ll use to embrace that day. We can’t change the past, the only thing we can do is play with the string we have and that’s our attitude. I’m convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. So it is with you to always be in charge of your attitude no matter what comes to you.

Let this heroic woman’s true-life miracle of survival, faith, and inspiration be the reminder we need for this October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Let’s remind each other to:

  • Get frequent check-ups,
  • Research a trustworthy doctor,
  • Remember there are always bumps in the road,
  • But we can persevere with a strong balance of life, support, and positivity!

Pre-Wedding Plastic Surgery? Dr. Paul Wigoda Shares Tips for Your Big Event

wedding plastic surgery
Here comes the bride… and the groom… and the mother? And the father?

When it comes to weddings, not only do brides and grooms say ‘I do’ to plastic surgery, the entire family and bridal party want to look their best on the big day. Even celebrities like born this way, Lady Gaga wants pre-wedding plastic surgery for instant results to look flawless on her wedding day.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda, MD reported that when wedding season comes around, “dozens of wedding parties make their way into [his] office to see what they can sneak in plastic surgery procedure-wise in time for their big days.”

“Many people come in before an event, whether they are the bride, bridesmaid, mother, or just a guest. It can be weddings or any other important event where a group of people are gathering to celebrate… a baby shower, graduations, a charity event, and so on,” Dr. Wigoda adds. “Unfortunately, some have come too close to the date where it would be risky to have the surgery because they may still be bruised or swollen.”

A RealSelf Trends article recently reported that women spend more time researching plastic surgery over their weddings, of the brides surveyed in the RealSelf article 70% said they researched two to five different doctors, while 11%  some looked at six to ten doctors said they looked at six to ten doctors and 5% vetted ten or more. It is important that if you’re doing your research, you should know when to have your plastic surgery procedure done so you can look your best on the big day.

Remember Timing is Everything

“The best advice,” Dr. Wigoda offered, “Is to plan ahead. And if you are thinking about plastic surgery, try to have it done 4 to 6 months prior. If it’s just an injectable or peel, try to do it about a month before the event.”

Considering plastic surgery work before a wedding, high school reunion or special event? Here are some of the additional plastic surgery timelines Dr. Wigoda wants you to keep in mind.

  1. Painless Breast Implants – Plan at least 3-6 months in advance to give the implants some time to drop and appear more natural. If possible, sooner is always better.
  2. Liposuction – Get this procedure done at least 3 months in advance as it generally takes 1-3 months for all of the swelling to be gone to be able to see the final contour.
  3. Botox and Fillers – Give yourself at least 3-4 weeks between injections for your event and you’re smooth to go!
  4. Facelift – This procedure lasts longer than Botox and fillers so it’s no surprise that the healing process is also a bit longer. For truly age-reversing results, allow 3-6 months before you make your grand debut.
  5. Browlift – Spending sleepless nights worrying about your special event? No need to worry about looking tired! Allow 3-6 months healing time before the event.
  6. Facials and Peels – A facial might cause more breakouts, even if the aesthetician did everything right because your skin isn’t used to stirring up bacteria during extractions. Never have a facial within a week of an important event and should really plan closer to 3-4 weeks out.

Picture-Perfect Selfie

At big events, it’s OK to want to look just right in that selfie with your new husband or picture-perfect with your family, and enhance your appearance with some plastic surgery procedures you may have been putting off. The key to plastic surgery for your wedding or big event is to give yourself time to heal.

Research “The One”

Don’t forget, choosing “the one” to do your plastic surgery is the most important step in getting your plastic surgery done on the big day. Read this recent article on a few things you will need to do before committing to a plastic surgeon and going under the knife.

If you’re considering plastic surgery before a wedding, a high school reunion or a big event in your life, contact Dr. Wigoda today to discuss your timeline and options for best results.

Plastic Surgery’s Newest Trend: Non-Invasive Procedures

How Cosmetic Surgery Is Becoming More Simple - Facebook

Plastic surgery has come a long way over the years, and the turn of the 21st century has brought about amazing advancements. Results that were once thought only achievable through a mythical fountain of youth were made possible by plastic surgery and now cosmetic surgery is becoming less complicated and results more attainable. How is this possible?

The answer is simple really…

Non-invasive procedures with nip and tuck results.

Last month, we reported on The Today Show’s plastic surgery trends. The latest trend they shared was plastic surgery without the knife. Why? Non-invasive procedures strive to make plastic surgery less complicated.

People want to look as good as they feel, but oftentimes gravity gets in the way. New plastic surgery trends offer non-invasive options for people who want to slow the aging process without looking “worked on.” They want to look like a younger, refreshed version of themselves and rejuvenation results have never been more promising and within reach.

Plastic surgery procedures have evolved and as the options grow and change so do the clientele. People of all ages are seeking help from plastic surgeons to keep themselves up. Even more interesting, many of these plastic surgery patients are male. So many people are opting for non-invasive procedures because of the reduced risks, minimal downtime and the less permanent but still excellent results. While bruising and swelling may occur, non-invasive procedures are a great alternative to plastic surgery as it is ideal for those with busy schedules who can’t afford any downtime. In fact, some procedures are nicknamed lunchtime plastic surgery treatments because they’re just that quick!

Is your interest piqued? Great! Read on to see what less complicated plastic surgery procedures board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Wigoda recommends.

Fillers for Wrinkles

Wrinkles can be the result of any one, or combination of factors including loss of collagen, sun damage, smoking, alcohol consumption and also hormonal changes. Aging itself is a large contributing factor as collagen can decrease at a rate of 1 percent per year after age 40. Sun exposure accelerates the aging process and loss of collagen, resulting in the formation of wrinkles. To help slow down and lightly reverse the natural effects of aging, fillers like Botox, Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse® can make a subtle but noticeable difference that doesn’t look like the skin is stretched too tight.

Botox Brow Lifts

Botox is mainly used for the upper face including the upper forehead, crows feet and the glabellar area between the eyebrows. It has many uses but Botox brow lifts specifically focus on reversing the descent of eyebrows which has a tremendous effect on the “total” look of the person. Depending on whether the descent is more toward the middle or more toward the outside, the person may look angry, bored, or tired when they are not. Raising the brow “opens” the entire eye up. As a result the person looks more refreshed, awake, and happy. Botox brow lifts offer effective but less permanent results comparable to surgical brow lifts. The best part is, you can start small and if you’d like, do more after.

Kybella for Double Chins

Recently, the FDA approved a new drug called Kybella. The drug went through two clinical trials involving 1,022 adults with varying degrees of “submental fat.” The results were a noticeable reduction in fat! Kybella is approved as a “non-invasive in-the-office procedure” and sounds like a worthy alternative to liposuction, which targets the same fat but involves a lengthy procedure under local anesthesia.

“If the drug actually works as described, it will be very useful. However, I am skeptical that it will be as effective as liposuction. We will just have to wait to see how well it works, and more importantly, what the possible complications are,” said Dr. Wigoda.

Medical Facials and Peels

Medical facial services to combat the on-the-surface skin care problems plagued by men and women of any age. Medical aesthetics services are a lighter side of non-surgical cosmetic services that can protect against premature aging and also maximize the benefits of other procedures such as Botox and Fillers. For best results, enhance your medical facials with services like micro-needling, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion and chemical peels like Vi Peel.

Tip: VI Peel is formulated with a numbing agent, making it a perfect service to have before a Botox injection!

Micro-Needling

Micro-needling improves the appearance of fine wrinkles and acne scars by using tiny needle pricks around the problem area to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, collagen. This collagen induction therapy provides faster recovery than laser resurfacing and generally sees a 60% to 70% improvement in the broad acne scars with four to six treatments. Patients typically notice an immediate glow following their initial treatment but may exhibit slight redness for a few days as the skin heals.

Dermaplaning

If you want to get rid of dead skin cells, dermaplaning is a great exfoliator. Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and getting rid of the vellus hair (baby-fine hairs on your face,) along with giving your skin a brighter complexion. It is very similar to shaving and will hack off all your fine facial hairs (bonus!), but before you go buying fine facial razors, keep in mind that the best results come from professionals so your skin will feel silky smooth.

Truth: Vellus hair is soft and fine, and shaving them won’t make them thicker and coarser.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer to gently exfoliate the skin to diminish signs of aging. This non-invasive treatment is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks.

Chemical Peels (including the VI Peel)

VI Peels are a safe, effective approach to achieving younger looking skin and provide superior results within a week. Skin that is properly maintained through professional exfoliation treatments and appropriate home care products stays healthy, youthful, and radiant at any age. The plus of chemical peels such as VI Peels? A single VI Peel will achieve significant repair and impart a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true restorative, painless repair of damaged skin cells resulting from UV exposure and acne. Best of all, it is an aging preventative for younger patients with no visible damage. There are no restrictions following the VI Peels, normal activities may be resumed immediately after the peel. For patients who exercise routinely, low impact aerobic activity would be advised for 72-96 hours.

Non-invasive treatments can add up with multiple sessions, but the price tag is worth it for your peace of mind. Want to know what cosmetic treatments would work best for your problem areas? Contact Dr. Wigoda today for your free consultation.

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong Research Your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Mishaps and dangers can be shocking, sometimes tragic, for patients who don’t select a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Plastic surgery, no matter how routine or minor it is, is still surgery and must be taken seriously. TV shows like Botched! feature extreme cases that may be misleading and cause people to think “that will never happen to me.” However, just because your plastic surgeon hasn’t had a severe complication doesn’t mean you’re not at risk to experience plastic surgery gone wrong.

Dr. Wigoda stresses the importance of researching your plastic surgeon before any procedure. If a board-certified plastic surgeon advising you isn’t enough, just look at some of these patients’ horror stories who came to Dr. Wigoda for help after selecting the wrong plastic surgeon the first time around.

Here’s what you need to do before committing to a plastic surgeon and going under the knife:

1. Make sure your plastic surgeon has hospital privileges

If you’re having a plastic surgery procedure at an outpatient clinic, make sure that, like The Aesthetics Institute in Fort Lauderdale, the clinic conducting your surgery has been inspected and accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

Next, confirm where the plastic surgeon has hospital privileges. Even though your plastic surgery won’t occur in the hospital, this is a crucial step because hospitals do background checks! Hospital privileges are granted to a plastic surgeon by a committee of other doctors who check their credentials and training. They are in turn approved by the chairman of the department.  Make sure that the plastic surgeon has privileges for exactly the procedure that you want performed. For example, dermatologists may have privileges to take care of skin problems but not for liposuction or a facelift in a hospital. If your plastic surgeon doesn’t have hospital privileges, that’s a huge red flag and you need to ask why.

2. Ask for “before and after” photos of other patients

You wouldn’t buy a car before test driving it, would you? While you can’t necessarily test drive your plastic surgeon or the results, other patients’ “before and after” photos are the closest thing to it! You need to evaluate the work that has been performed to feel confident this plastic surgeon will help you reach your post-op goals. Board-certified plastic surgeons are trained to take “before and after” photographs of all surgical procedures and these should be available for patients to review during consultations. It’s understandable if your plastic surgeon cannot readily show you a photo of every one of their patients as some may opt out; however, some references showcasing the procedure in which you’re interested should be available so that you can be confident in your decision. Do not agree to a procedure with a plastic surgeon whose results make you hesitant or if you don’t feel you’ve been fully briefed and educated on all aspects of the proposed procedure.

3. Talk to former and current patients

Again, you cannot test drive a plastic surgeon, but the next best thing is talking to someone who has already undergone the procedure you’re seeking! When applying to a new job, most people have several references and plastic surgeons are no different. If you ask for them, your plastic surgeon must be able to connect you with prior patients who can vouch, not just for their surgeon, but also for their results. Talk to former patients and ask about your surgeon’s bedside manner, availability, professionalism and anything else that will help ease your mind. Like in an interview, a person can ooze confidence and make you feel like they’re the right choice; however, if their references don’t check out, you shouldn’t check in.

4. Make sure your doctor is aware of your medical history

If your plastic surgeon doesn’t ask about your medical history after the initial consultation, you should be concerned. There are risks to surgery and your plastic surgeon should not play them down in any way. Your surgeon needs to be aware of any current or past medical problems, drugs or supplements you’re taking, etc. The plastic surgeon must know about your lifestyle and activities in order to give accurate predictions of your surgery and recovery. By asking for a detailed medical history, your plastic surgeon conveys their concern first and foremost about your safety.

Depending on your age and health, a full preoperative evaluation including past medical history is very important.  They should request lab work for blood counts, coagulation profiles, and basic chemistry profiles. Additional tests may include chest x-rays and EKGs, which are commonly performed on people over 40.

5. Spot check! Is the office clean?

At some point during your initial visit, your plastic surgeon should give you a tour of the office so you have a chance to visualize where your procedure will occur. If you’re not provided one, ask! Scope out the surgery center and make sure that it’s up to your standards and you’re comfortable. Before you go under the knife, you need to make sure the office is clean, professional, and stocked with up-to-date equipment. If something looks off or inappropriate, be wary of it. The clinic where your surgery takes place should be as sterile as a hospital to reduce the risk of complications. The liposuction nightmare video referenced above is about a woman who lost most of her skin, and almost her life, to a flesh-eating bacteria that she was infected with during a routine liposuction procedure. Take a tour on your second consultation too. If something looked off on your first visit and wasn’t resolved by the second, take your business elsewhere.

Remember, plastic surgery is your decision and you shouldn’t settle for just any plastic surgeon. If you have any questions or want to book a free consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is an expert with zero lawsuits, zero disciplinary actions, zero major complications, zero patient deaths and thousands of happy patients, contact Dr. Paul Wigoda today!
