Me Day Spa Manicure-Saving Tips

So you’ve visited your favorite South Beach Day Spa and Salon (Of course it was Me Day Spa!) for a manicure when – gasp! – a chip appears!

Never fear, the glam squad responsible for manicures at Me Day Spa provided us with some great tips to save your manicure from complete destruction. So bring on the dishes and typing, your nails will be protected!

  1. Go to a quality salon. Some salons may offer lower prices, but they don’t always take the time to apply your nail polish carefully.
  2. Don’t skip the basecoat! The basecoat is what keeps the polish on your nail. Be sure it is applied across the entire nail – especially the tips where chips start!
  3. Keep your hands out of the water. When washing dishes, wear rubber gloves.
  4. Apply a high quality topcoat every day. Me Day Spa’s manicurists say this is the trick to extending a manicure several days longer than normal.
  5. Treat a chip right away. Keep a home supply of the same type of polish used by your manicurist. As soon as you see a chip, fill it in and apply topcoat to keep the chip from spreading.

Ashlee Simpson’s Celebrity Plastic Surgery

Ashlee Simpson is one of the youngest celebrities in Hollywood who admits to having plastic surgery. Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures in the US and it’s amazing how great the results can be when done correctly! Ashlee’s plastic surgery shows us that just because you’re a celebrity doesn’t mean you have to have tons of work done!

Here’s what Dr. Wigoda, Fort Lauderdale’s best plastic surgeon, had to say:

“Its pretty amazing what rhinoplasty can do! Ashlee Simpson went from a slightly-above-average-looking young lady to a very attractive woman.

From a plastic surgery standpoint, her surgeon did an excellent job with her rhinoplasty. She is not overdone and if we didn’t know her before, you wouldn’t know she had her nose done at all.

The goals when doing a rhinoplasty are:

  • obtaining a natural appearance
  • shaping the nose to fit the persons face
  • not making the patient look like a completely different person(unless they are hiding from the FBI!)
  • most importantly, shaping the nose so the patient can breathe easily.

It is fairly often that I improve a patient’s airway while making their nose look better. If you have trouble breathing through your nose, especially when lying down (and trying to go to sleep), it is quite annoying. This is the primary complaint of patients who consult with me for a rhinoplasty.”

Three cheers for appropriate use of plastic surgery Ashlee!

Is Your Plastic Surgeon Board Certified? Questions To Ask Before Plastic Surgery

Making the choice to undergo cosmetic surgery is not one that should be taken lightly. Even the most famous and experienced plastic surgeons have less than-stellar results with patients from time to time, and occasionally have patients that experience complications during plastic surgery.

Consider the following questions when researching plastic surgeons. Keep in mind that the final choice of surgeon is yours and should depend on whom you feel the most comfortable with, not who is the cheapest or most well known.

1.    Is the surgeon a fully trained plastic surgeon?

In order to become a plastic surgeon, a physician must complete 4 years of medical school, at least 3 years of a general surgery residency, and at least 2 years of a plastic surgery residency. Fellowships are often done for additional training. All of these must be done at fully accredited programs.

2.    Is the plastic surgeon board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?

In order to become a board certified plastic surgeon, a doctor must meet the requirements in question one and then pass a written exam. After being in practice for approximately one year, the plastic surgeon then must pass a three-day oral exam given by many of the national leaders of plastic surgery around the country. This is the only board that is important for a plastic surgeon.

3.    Where is the surgery being performed? Have there been any serious complications at the surgery site?

You should always ask if there have been any problems at the practice or surgery center where you will be having your cosmetic procedure There are some well known cosmetic surgery centers in South Florida where more than one death has occurred. Patients may not realize that the cosmetic surgery centers are businesses often owned, not by physicians, but by businessmen.

Time Saving Makeup Tips

Professional makeup artist Raymond Collins regularly lends his artistic expertise to the beauties of South Beach at Me Day Spa.

But what if you can’t make it to the salon? How can you re-create Raymond’s catwalk-ready looks at home, and save some time in the process?

Easy. Take these five time saving makeup tips and you’ll be ready for your close up in no time.

1.  Always use a primer – Foundation primers are priceless when it comes to prepping skin for a smooth makeup application. Additionally, primer helps keep makeup on during a long day by preventing “makeup meltdown”.
2.    Loose powder is a necessity – Apply a loose powder on top of foundation to secure it for the whole day, cutting down on re-application time. Recent addition to the Me Day Spa product roster Alison Raffaele Cosmetics makes a great loose powder.
3.    Find a cream blush that doubles as a lip color – Using fewer products always means less time in the bathroom!
4.    Eye shadow makes great eyeliner – A quick swipe with some dark eye shadow is just as gorgeous for daytime as perfectly applied eyeliner.
5.    If all else fails, just go with mascara and gloss – Ever have one of those days where you just have no time for your usual beauty routine? Just grab your mascara, gloss, and go! Your eyes will still look awake, and gloss ads just a hint of glamour!

Dr. Wigoda’s Red Carpet Monday: Madonna’s Plastic Surgery Mishaps

Yikes! Queen Madge is that you? We can hardly tell beneath the chicken cutlets protruding from your face. Even though Madonna is a celebrity, that doesn’t make her immune to bad plastic surgery.

There’s no denying that the material girl is definitely turning into the material mature woman. Our feeling is, if you are going to have cosmetic surgery done that isn’t appropriate for your age and facial structure, DON’T GET ANY!

Here’s what Dr. Wigoda had to say about Madonna’s recent cosmetic surgery:

“What a scary photo…not sure what her doctor was thinking but I can’t imagine this is the look they wanted.

Starting from the top, her forehead looks a bit long but with few
wrinkles… this is either from botox or she may have had a forehead lift. If so, this might explain why she has allowed her dark hair roots to grow one inch (not wanting to color her hair with incisions in the area).

Her eyelids have probably been operated on and overall look reasonably good. There is minimal excess skin in the upper eyelids and minimal “bags” in the lower lids although she does have a distinct tear trough. I generally try to fill this in with the fat from the fatty bags when I do a blepharoplasty. It’s unclear if her surgeon did this or just removed excess fat, which is an older, less advanced technique still used by some surgeons. There is more skin visible on the left upper eyelid than the right, this could just be from the photo or she could be asymmetric. There are few crows’ feet suggesting she has had Botox.

Below the eyelids is where things start looking a bit scary. It’s hard to know exactly what was done but whatever it was, it wasn’t done well. If I had to guess, she most likely had a face and neck lift with incisions around her ears. They may have removed some fat from the lower cheek and I think pulled the skin too tight, giving her that “swept” look just below her cheeks. Her cheeks are too full…either from a filler like radiesse or from fat injections (fat transfer) or even an overly aggressive mid-face lift.

Her nasolabial folds are fairly smooth, most likely from fillers like Radiesse or Juvederm.

Madonna has a full upper lip with a small lower lip…could be her natural state or they could be filled with a filler like Restylane or Juvederm.”

Madonna, we love you just the way you are. Now fire that surgeon and make an appointment with Dr. Wigoda.

Red Carpet Monday “The After Party Edition:” Tori Spelling and Plastic Surgery.

OOPS! We were so busy ogling over the celebrities that turned out for a variety of events last week that we neglected to give you your daily Monday dose of celebrity plastic surgery goodness.

Have no fear; the plastic surgery patrol is here.

This week’s subject: Tori Spelling.

You can love her, hate her, or love to hate her but at least you’re talking about her. Growing up the incredibly wealthy offspring of TV’s most prolific mogul gave Tori plenty of access to the “services” of many California plastic surgeons. Dr. Wigoda certainly has plenty to talk about…

“Looking at this photo of Tori, what stands out to me are her cheeks. They appear somewhat abnormal in their contour and size. I can only guess that she has had them injected with a filler (perhaps Radiesse) but it appears to have been done poorly.

Her lips are fairly full. This could be natural, or perhaps they are also injected with a filler like Juvederm or Restylane.

Her forehead is fairly smooth without any wrinkles. This could be from Botox injections. The quality of her skin looks good but she is fairly young.

In addition, lighting and makeup can camouflage any irregularities. My suggestion for her would be to ease up on the cheek treatments and perhaps find someone else to do them.”

Tori, the chicken-cutlet look isn’t good for you. Give Dr. Wigoda a call.
