Sex and The City and Plastic Surgery: Dr. Wigoda on Kim Cattrall

Last Thursday, three members of Hollywood’s most famous foursome gathered to at the New York Public Library to launch Sex in The City on DVD. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and the lovely Kim Cattrall gathered to celebrate and sip their signature cosmos.

Kim Cattrall’s “Samantha” is Sex and The City’s most bawdy and honest character. We can’t help but wonder… would she be honest about having cosmetic surgery? Kim is beautiful to be sure and will continue to be at any age.

Nevertheless, we asked Dr. Wigoda to give us his thoughts on the legendary Ms. Cattrall’s possible enhancements.

“Kim Cattrall is another actress who is not only very attractive but who also looks good for her age. However, she is showing signs of aging. In looking at this photo I can see that her forehead, glabella, and crows feet areas are fairly smooth for her age. This is a sign that she probably gets Botox in those areas. The areas that give away her true age are her lower eyelids, where the skin is somewhat thin and wrinkled, as well as her lower cheek areas where there is some skin laxity. Additionally, her nasolabial folds are fairly deep with full cheeks. This shows that she may have had a filler like Radiesse to fill the cheek area.

If she were to come to me for my opinion on what she needs to look even better, I would suggest the following: a face and neck lift to tighten the cheek and neck skin, a filler such as Radiesse to fill in the nasolabial folds, and possible surgery on her eyelids. I would continue the Botox as it seems to be working well for the upper face.“

Hair Salon Tips and Tricks: How To Save Your Blowout

Going to your favorite Miami Beach salon and getting a blowout doesn’t have to end with doing the “how do I keep my hair perfect for the next few days” routine of avoiding water, sweat and frizz at all costs.

Saving that just-left-the-salon look isn’t hard, with a few tips and tricks you can keep your blowout looking great for several days after you leave the stylists chair.

“You can keep a blowout looking salon fresh for three days after you leave the salon,” said Me Day Spa stylist, Todd Bertenshaw. “The only thing off limits is completely wetting your hair but you can still shower, workout, and do your normal routine.”

Here are Todd’s top three tips to save your blowout:

  • Use a shower cap in the shower – they are available at any drugstore and keep even a small amount of moisture from getting on your hair.
  • Invest in a dry shampoo – these come in spray, powder and even liquid forms. They absorb oil at the roots and keep the hair at the crown looking fresh.
  • Use a flat iron to smooth stray hairs and backcomb hair around the crown at the roots when it falls flat.

Did Debra Messing Get Botox? Dr. Wigoda Compares  “The Women” Cast

Last weekend the most famous women in Hollywood turned out for the premiere of “The Women.” The all-star cast includes: Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Bette Midler, and Candice Bergen.

In a cast of such gorgeous women, we can only wonder…who’s had a little “help” in the cosmetic surgery department lately?

Only on the South Florida Beauty Blog will you find direct commentary on the stars latest red carpet looks. This week, Dr. Wigoda weighs in on Debra Messing and Annette Bening.

“I think Debra Messing looks terrific in the photo. She has very few wrinkles in the forehead, glabella, and crows feet area. I would guess that she gets botox for that. Her skin also has a very smooth complexion.”

“While Annette Bening is a beautiful woman, there is no question she looks at least 10 years older than Debra. She also appears to be treated with botox in the upper face but is showing more signs of aging around the eyes and cheek area. There are a lot of rhytids in the cheek when she smiles, which to me suggests some degree of skin laxity. I would recommend a facelift to clear up this imperfection. However, Bening’s neck is the area that reveals her age the most. She appears to have obvious sun damage as well as platysma muscle bands. Again, overall she is a very attractive woman, but if she came to see me, these would be the areas I would address with her.”

Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgery Centers: How to Spot The Red Flags

With the increasing popularity of plastic surgery in the US, new “surgery centers” are appearing across South Florida with surprisingly low rates on popular procedures. Getting extremely affordable plastic surgery in Fort Lauderdale with an outpatient setting sounds like a dream right? Wrong.

These plastic surgery centers advertise “board certified” physicians and “exceptional facilities.” Often, neither is present on the premises. Typically, when encountering a discount “ cosmetic surgery center” patients experience something like this:

“These local plastic surgery centers advertise board certified physicians on staff; however, this it is not always the case. One surgeon out of the group may be certified and he or she usually performs the evaluation,” said The Aesthetics Institute owner, Dr. Paul Wigoda. “On surgery day however, the surgeon is not the same physician the patient met with and is usually not board certified.”

As far as South Florida plastic surgery centers are concerned, Dr. Wigoda stresses that they often have the bare minimum of equipment, poor sanitation, and lack proper credentials from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

So, how can you spot the red flags?

•    Ask about your Doctor’s credentials and if he or she is board certified. If on the day of your surgery the doctor is not who you originally were evaluated by, leave and contact the Florida Board of Medicine to file a complaint.
•    Surgery consultations should never be done over the phone. Physicians need to evaluate you in person to determine how to treat you.
•    Proper hygiene and sanitation should always be employed. If the facilities seem dirty or dated, get out!
•    In general, excessive and overt advertising is always a red flag. Good surgeons rely on more traditional methods of patient recruitment including word-of-mouth referrals.

Most importantly, if you decide to have cosmetic surgery, do your research. Quality surgeons will be more than happy to answer questions and address concerns. Get referrals from past patients and be sure to evaluate your surgeon’s credentials.

Me Day Spa Updates The French Manicure – As seen in VOGUE

Long, shiny white talons are OUT.

Square, white-tipped French manicures are a holdover from the nineties, as far as any South Beach manicurist will attest to.

Miami Beach’s Me Day Spa is updating the classic French manicure with a South Florida twist – using pastel peaches, opaque pinks, and iridescent whites to create a soft and sophisticated look. By applying a soft pink or peach to the nail and an ivory or iridescent white to the tip, clients still get the French style without looking dated.

“Clients are coming to us looking for a practical, yet glamorous nail style that they can wear for a variety of occasions,” said Sonia Fardales, Salon Manager for Me Day Spa. “The updated French manicure is a modern twist on beautiful classic.”
